    D55almost therebut what about Bluegrass?

Did Doc play one? That would be cool. Whenever I see clips of Doc he’s always playing a cutaway, which I think is interesting. I always wonder how much someone like Doc cared about all the stuff we sometimes obsess over. Probably not much. More about the music I’m sure.

That’s so cool. Guess I’ll add it to the list! Haha

Both. I’m an intermediate player, but I’m really enjoying bluegrass and see it as something I’ll stick with for sure.

Oh yeah, I know. Been working on this for a while. Got my price locked in at GC and aware that it’ll probably be end of year before it arrives.

    D55almost therebut what about Bluegrass?

Every time I try to talk myself out of the D55, I give up and come back to the D55. I believe it’ll be the one. Can’t wait. Order will be placed soon. NGD when it comes in!

It sure seems like a great all-rounder. And, if I get deeper into bluegrass, I can add a grass-specific guitar later on.

    D55almost therebut what about Bluegrass?

Well, I’m almost ready to pull the trigger on a D55. I play a variety of styles, but I’ve been playing a lot of bluegrass lately. I don’t want a bluegrass-only guitar, but I also don’t want a non-bluegrass guitar. I guess what I’m asking is whether the D55 will hold its own at a bluegrass jam...

    Are new D-55s out there?

Nah, not a CC guy. Don’t even have one. Prepared to wait, but it won’t be easy!

    Are new D-55s out there?

I saw that. The profile on my D-18 is “low profile” and measures .596” at the 1st and .646” at the 10th. That’s 15.1mm and 16.4mm. Should be interesting. I’m glad for the thickness. It also looks like the Guild has a scale length that’s 6mm longer.

    Are new D-55s out there?

I wonder if it has shoulders, or it’s a “C” as listed? Either way, I plan to adapt to it.

    Are new D-55s out there?

Very true! That’s why I sought advice here. Definitely helps with my decision. There are a couple small dealers Guild lists within striking distance. I’ll call them too. The plan is to love it!

    Are new D-55s out there?

I’m not wedded to GC at all. I was just trying to save on return shipping that I would have to pay if I return through Sweetwater. Agree that Sweetwater is easy to deal with. I’ve worked with them before. And, if they decide to give me a discount, that’s the route I might go. But the whole goal...

    Are new D-55s out there?

Thanks, guys. GC is an authorized dealer. I’ve seen the ones on Reverb, but the return windows are pretty small, then there’s return shipping cost to consider. I got an email from Guild saying turn around time for a new D-55 is 3-6 months from when the retailer places the order. I think that’s...

    Are new D-55s out there?

Thanks. I’m in the NC mountains. Yes, the reason for going with GC would be the return policy. I’d be just as happy using a small dealer. I called one dealer and they didn’t seem very interested. Another hadn’t heard of the D-55 at all.

    Are new D-55s out there?

Thanks, @valleyguy. I’m pretty set on a new Oxnard built one. Good to know about the bass. That should work for me. I know this is sort of an annoying question because it’s impossible to predict, but is a new D-55 a pretty safe bet to buy unplayed? Meaning, the chances are pretty low that I...

    Are new D-55s out there?

After everything I’ve listened to and read, the D-55 is most likely my next guitar. The only thing that would change my mind would be the boomy Martin sound for bluegrass. But, the Guild tones I’ve heard online are the sound I’ve been wanting for a while. And I play more than bluegrass. It’s...

    Are new D-55s out there?

There’s a special Martin 28 at Sweetwater with an adi top and v neck for the same price as the D-55. Not making this easy…

    Are new D-55s out there?

Thanks, valleyguy. That’s what I was looking for. I’ve pretty much narrowed it down to the HD28 and D55. I play some bluegrass right now, and I’ll probably always play some, but I definitely enjoy playing many other genres. If I was a straight up bluegrass player, I’d probably stick with a...
