Barely played G37 in the shop for a set up. Super clean. I started rubbing off the compound thinking it was paint and stopped when I realized it was factory compound left after all these years. Kinda cool.
Speak of the devil. I just got this '90's one in my shop and saw this. Not sure if this repair was done in factory or not but intonation point is still too far forward.
I remember those. Someone drilled the stud holes in the wrong place and a stock bridge wouldn't intonate so that was the solution. Ah, the old factory memories!
I'm assuming they are all cast as they are all nonmagnetic, (except for the non-hinged tailpieces). The German ones are a lot heavier. Could they be plated brass?
"Ditto" to all of the above. I've seen, or done, hundreds of them and they can be a nightmare. But sometimes they just pop off! So I always warn customers that pricing can vary accordingly.
