    Truss Rod Adjustment

I have an old style truss rod with the 1/4” nut. When I try turning the nut it looks to me like it just gets tighter or looser on the rod it’s threaded on to. I don’t see any change in relief. Here’s a pic:

Head Shavers, How Long Have You Been Smooth?

The follically challenged thread has me wondering how long the head shavers have been at it. I started in summer of 1994. I can remember because shortly after I started I went to Lollapalooza and people were freaking out over it. It’s pretty common now but not so much almost thirty years ago.

Questions about moving melody notes around within a phrase

It’s pretty common for fingerpickers to move melody notes around in a phrase, and I have questions. First I’ll give a concrete example from a song I’m learning now. It’s Freight Train and I’m learning it from John Miller’s Elizabeth Cotten series. The melodic phrase I’ll use as an example is...

    NGD-Iris AB

Kind of fell in love while looking for the perfect neck where I can get my thumb over but still wide enough for clean fingering. My first sunburst. Lovely tone. Really well balanced and lots of projection with bare fingers and not too much digging in.

Nut Width, Scale Length, and Thumb-over F Chord

I recently played a Gibson LG-0 while window shopping in Georgia (was there for work). I was surprised to find I didn’t find the neck cramped up near the nut, and I could get my thumb over the neck easier than either my GF30 or my Waterloo WL-K. I think it was the narrower neck that let me get...

Who Says Regional Differences are Disappearing?

Well I did actually, in another thread. But this guy in Philly is going viral for his accent in a tv interview.

    Who is this, really?

That’s definitely not Mississippi John Hurt playing or singing. I think that might be Keith Richards.

I got a Compliment for my Playing!

I was playing on my deck this weekend, some Mississippi John Hurt, Payday, Spike Driver’s, See See Rider. The retired couple who are watching our neighbor’s house while she is out of town asked if that was me playing and said it sounded nice. It was really cool to hear.

Source of pre-shaped nut and saddle for GF30

Can anyone tell me where to find a pre-shaped saddle for a GF30? If I check the width of the slot with feeler gauges how much narrower than the width should I go? I assume it wants to be fairly tight. Also for the nut do I need a flat bottom or a curved bottom?

    Sold 1991 GF30 Blonde Withdrawn

Listing is withdrawn. I couldn’t figure out how to change the header. I bought this today off Facebook marketplace after seeing the notice here. I already have one and prefer the string spacing on mine. Yes it is noticeably different. I’m going to flip this, but… I think it would be kind of a...

    Slovenian Archtop

Reverb whim: https://reverb.com/item/49089765-ton...dy-jazz-guitar The seller didn’t know much about it. He did say it was made in Slovenia, so I was able to find the mfr website. https://ton.si/production.html Specs seem pretty good. Solid carved top but they don’t say what wood...

New (used) electric and new amp

Picked up a barely used G&L ASAT Tribute and a Spark Mini to go with it. I thought it would be fun to play some Lightning Hopkins and John Lee Hooker type stuff on.

Why Don’t we Clap After Classical Solos?

Last year when things started opening up my wife and I got free tickets to our local symphony. The guest soloist was a young man who played a carbon fiber cello. He rocked the h@ll out on that cello. If he had fit that same solo into say a prog concert people would have gone crazy with applause.

    Robert Plant and Alison Krauss

Going to see them tomorrow night at Foxwoods. They must have added the show because I don’t think I saw this date when they announced their tour schedule. Really glad I was listening to commercial FM this morning.

    Jesse Ed Davis

Really good article that came up in my news feed this morning. I had heard his name but I confess I knew little about him. https://apple.news/A5ai7hUy_QtS5dgHBsiNhDw
