    Vintage Guild For The Win…AGAIN

What acoustic are you playing today?

I'm having the good kind of trouble putting it down. It suits me so well that I'm beginning to wonder if the guitar I'm currently building will have any chance of getting equal time. I've built about 20 guitars now, and Patches is in another league altogether. I guess I sort of surprised myself.

Tell Me About Guild Classicals, Please

On flamencos (in my case a Ramirez), the bracing is different, weight is sometimes different (lighter), and the setup is definitely lower than a classical. Flamenco players generally want some "splatter" against the frets while playing.

Tell Me About Guild Classicals, Please

The Mk guitars are solid woods. The numbers generally (not always) change with changes in wood. The lower numbers starting with mahogany and the highest ending in rosewood. Guild, Martin and Gibson are steel-string-famous but each also produced or produces nylon string guitars. Of the three...

    F312 1964

I recommend playing the larger body sitting down for an hour before deciding you need it.

For $5K US which one(s) wouldn't you sell, if any?

Because I got tired of the risk, I don't have any guitars left that are worth $5k. However, I recently finished a build that I would not sell right now for $5k. Maybe it's a honeymoon thing, but, like my first marriage, I can see that honeymoon lasting another 52 years.

    NGD: 1969 F312

Here are some factors which may affect luthiers' willingness to set these necks: 1. There is factory finish over the joint. This finish must be separated before removing the neck. I have a little Xacto chisel (razor-blade thin and sharp; 3/8" wide) I use for this. Takes about 30 seconds. 2...

Considering my first Guild, a CO-2. What should I look out for?

I assume you've checked it for carbon dioxide?

What is it that draws you to Guild guitars?

Don't forget Pabst Blue Ribbon, and Hamms What drew me to Guild was walking into a little music store and seeing AE-176 hanging on the wall. It's still the most fun musical instrument I've ever played.

12-strings - what do you play on them?

I play For Emily, Hazy Shade of Winter, Walk Right In, Walking in the Country, Castles in the Air, lots os Lightfoot tunes, etc. Many of Paul Simon's early tunes were performed with just Paul and Art and a 12-string. I believe Paul was busking around Europe with just himself and a 12 when Sounds...

1512 truss rod repair/bolt on neck

Aha! I get it. An EZ-Out should do the trick handily. Using 1/4" hex shafts and sleeves, you'll have to link together some short extensions to get the bit in position, but it should be doable.

1512 truss rod repair/bolt on neck

The modern Martin truss rods are also way back in there. Seems odd this would be broken or stripped, as it has to be a fairly new guitar. If you cannot remove the nut, how do you know it's stripped instead of the rod being broken? At any rate, it's fairly simple to remove a bolt-on neck to...

    "Special"

Special order could mean internal factory-designated special order. My old guitar, 1966 F-412Spec. AE176 was part of a group of guitars which were essentially prototypes for the F-512. I'd guess there were about 10 of them made.

What acoustic are you playing today?

I finished this ( https://www.acousticguitarforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=577366 ) build to the point of test-playing on Friday, so over the last few days we've been making music.

    Just a little moment…

Looks to me like an F-50. I didn't know the maple F-30 existed. Also I didn't know any F-30 archback existed. Probably later than the years I know.

    NGD! 1958 Ghost Label F-20

Intersting timing for this zombie-thread resurrection. I just saw a ghost-label M-20 hanging in my local Guitar Center used section. Not too many of these old survivors around.

Early all-mahogany small Guild sighting (M-20)

There's an early "ghost label" Guild M-20 hanging in the acoustic room of the Fountain Valley Guitar Center in case anyone's interested. I didn't see it in the vintage gear webpage, so I'm posting it here.

Solo Shows With My Guild 8 String Baritone

Thank you; I'm getting it now. Given the same strings, 6-string tension would be less on a 27 scale in D than a 25.4 in E. It would probably still be less with the two added octave strings. I'm going to have test-drive one of these sometime soon:)
