What acoustic are you playing today?

I feel like it's sacrilege to talk about a different brand jumbo 12-string guitar on a Guild forum - I hold Guild jumbo 12-strings as the standard by which we measure and compare all acoustic 12-string guitars! I tried a set of Martin Marquis strings on my new Eastman AC330E 12-string - First...

    Switching to Coated Strings

Most coated strings are coated first then wound - Elixirs and now D'Addario XS are wound then coated. The D'Addario XT's replace their older EXP coated strings and these are still coated then wound which gives them a more natural feel. I think the difference between coated/wound and...

    Discontinued Guild models

Should I give up hoping for a limited edition run of F-612's ?

What acoustic are you playing today?

Beautiful finish on these, I can't fault it - it was hard to get a shot of the back without reflection! Here it is from another angle, taken after the tuner swap.

What acoustic are you playing today?

I bought an Eastman AC330E 12-string jumbo a few months ago. Sitka over mahogany. Swapped the Ping tuners for Gotoh SG-381-05C It's not Guild F-512/412 good ... but it is very, very good and outstanding value with a nice 6-latch hard case.

    Switching to Coated Strings

Tried them both, same result .. too slippery! I think the problem with Elixirs for me (and possibly D'Addario XS) is the strings are wound then coated. I have no problem with any other brands (including D'Addario XT's) where the string is coated then wound. Big difference in my opinion.

I just saw your post on AGF - I signed out there after they banned me but I still check out posts - absolutely fantastic guitar, really beautiful, I love it!

    D'Addario 80/20 vs PB lights.

You 80/20 users should try Curt Mangan round-core 80/20's - they have this uncanny trick of lifting the mids, almost sounds like you're playing a guitar with mahogany back and sides! I rotate them with John Pearse 80/20's and D'Addario Nickel Bronze on my Gibson Historic 1957 SJ-200.

    Jumbo Run Down

I have a 2020 Gibson Custom Shop Historic 1957 SJ-200 - torrified top, hide glue, thin finish. It doesn't sound anything like the SJ-200 in that clip.

What acoustic are you playing today?

I had a red F-412 but sold it a couple of years ago .. as well as a Maton Country jumbo 12, Morris B-50-12, Taylor 355 and a Martin Grand J12-40E Special. I would rate this Eastman just below the F-412 and above the Taylor 355.

What acoustic are you playing today?

Very hard to fault it - nice response - comfortable neck - great finish - good volume - nice 6-latch hard case. Tuners are smooth but ratio is a tad fast, more like 12:1 but they work fine. Strangely these come with 12-53 D'Addario EJ-39 strings from factory but I got dealer to fit Martin Retro...

What acoustic are you playing today?

I don't want to upset you guys - this is a fabulous forum - but I bought a new jumbo 12-string acoustic guitar last week ... and it's not a Guild. Eastman AC330E. It's no F-512 or 412 ... but it is very impressive and outstanding value.

Balanced F-55 RSW : Does it exist ?

That rosewood scooped mids becomes most noticeable if you play a mahogany guitar and rosewood guitar back-to-back - mids spring out on the mahogany guitar. I've found the flattest, most even balance with maple jumbo guitars.

    12 String F2512CE - Tuner Upgrade Question

Have you adjusted them - you can firm up the turning by tightening the screw that holds the button/knob on - there's a spring washer that compresses.

Trying strings out on my F50

OK so not a Guild F50 but I have a 2020 Gibson Custom historic 1957 SJ-200 and it's probably the warmest sounding guitar I've ever played .. and yes, it's Maple. Factory .012" PB's sound muddy when they wear in, I wanted something cleaner and clearer. First string change I tried John Pearse...
