    1967 D-40... Hoboken or Westerly?

Hi Guys, Just picked up a 1967 Guild D-40. As I eagerly await its arrival, I've been researching its origins. The serial number is AJ2176, so that would indicate is was made in late 67. The label says it was made in Hoboken, but its come to my attention it could have been made in Westerly as...

Following Guild's DS-240 Memoir, Taylor introduces the Grand Pacific

Seems that slope shoulder dreadnoughts are in vogue these days... https://www.taylorguitars.com/guitars/acoustic/grand-pacific-dreadnought/story?utm_source=email_tg&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=gp1&utm_content=em_cta1

The better the guitar, the shorter the string life?

I've started a post on another forum concerning the string life on my Gibson SJ200. I thought it would be interesting to get LTGers perspective on this... In a nutshell, my SJ200 sounds absolutely glorious with fresh strings on it. However, after about 2 weeks, the strings start to sound dead...

How I almost ruined my Oxnard F55

Ok, the title might be a bit exaggerated, but that's how I felt at the time... A few weeks ago, the unthinkable happened... As I was recording my F55 with a condenser mic, the mic stand fell over and came crashing down on my F55's beautiful sunburst top. I froze for a second, trying to process...

Basement studio: How to treat a low ceiling?

Hi all, I'm planning on converting a space in my basement as a music room for playing, recording and mixing. The space is 19'x13'6''x6'2''. Yes, the ceiling is quite low. The 2x10” joist are exposed and about 12” apart. I would like to treat the ceiling as best I can for sound absorption and...

NGD : Oxnard M20e Vintage Burst

Hi all! I’ve been toying with the idea of picking up an Oxnard M20 for a while, so if ever the opportunity presented itself, I wouldn’t let it go by. So, recently a 2015 M20e vintage sunburst popped up on my radar. I bought it sight unseen and had it delivered to the border as I usually do...

NGD: Gibson Sheryl Crow Southern Jumbo Supreme - The perfect guitar?

I seem to have a love affair with mahogany these days... After being blown away by the '65 Hoboken F30, as luck would have it, another guitar on my bucket list pops up. Had tried a few J45s standards, a J45 True Vintage and a Gibson Advanced Jumbo, but none of them hit the mark. Then comes...

NGD: Just picked up a 1965 Guild F30

Just picked up my first vintage Guild: a 1965 Guild F30. It looks in pretty good shape. Good angle/depth on the neck, low action, decent height on the saddle, very little fret ware, tuners in great shape, and the top is just super gorgeous. All for 975$ shipped. Pretty excited about this one...

12'' fretboard radius for MIA Guilds VS 16'' radius for MIC Guilds - Why?

Hi, Anybody have an opinion as to why American made Guilds have fretboards with a 12'' radius while Guilds made in China have a 16'' radius? The general consensus seems to be that a flatter radius (16'') is best suited for lead play or fingerstyle while a rounder radius (12'') is better suited...

Selling my 2014 New Hartford F-512

Hello everyone, It's been a while since I've posted on the forum. Hope all of you are well. After much debate, I've decided to sell my immaculate F-512. It's become apparent to me that, as much as I love this guitar, I'm just not a 12 string kinda guy. So, best put it the hands of someone who...

Easy remedy for stained or discolored binding

Hello all! Thought I would share my solution for an unfortunate situation I was having with my NH D55 and NH F512. The white binding along the fret board (1st to 4th fret) had become discolored, like a pinkish hue, on both guitars. It seemed as though the stain from the neck was bleeding into...

My review of the NEW OXNARD F55e

Some of you may know I’ve been looking for a mint NH F50R burst for a while now. Nothing much out there, until I came across a listing on Reverb about 10 days ago. This listing however wasn’t for a NH F50R… it was for a new Oxnard F55e burst! Actually, it was a Guild representative’s sample...

Is a little belly bulge normal and does it add to the tone?

I'm looking at a 2009 F50, when asked, the seller says it has a little belly bulge and says its normal and adds to the tone. Never heard about belly bulge adding to the tone. So is "a little bulge" normal on a 9 year old guitar, or is it a sign there could be other issues? Thx Claude

    Questions about vintage Guild M20s

Anybody here knowledgeable about Hoboken/Westerly era M20s? (aside from the whole Nick Drake thing) How desirable are they compared to the new modern MIA versions and what is the ballpark value of a 60s M20? Any particular aspects of the vintage M20s one should be aware of if looking to pick...

What is Your Guitar Bucket List?

I admit it. I have a guitar bucket list. Not the kind of list that contains rare vintage guitars or limited editions and the likes... but rather real guitars you can realistically find (with a little determination and will), buy (without remortgaging your house , and play (not a museum piece...

Looking at a mint 98 Westerly JF30... opinions?

Hey, A mint 98 Westerly JF30 popped up locally near me. Seller is asking $750, I could probably knock him down to $650-700. A part from the bling, would this version have scalloped bracing? Are the necks on the Westerly JF30 pretty chunky, or would it resemble my NH d55?

    F512 as a 6 string vs F50R - How does it compare?

Hey there LTGers, I was in the midst of a string change on my F512 and thought to myself, hey why don't I try the F512 with a 6 string setup while I'm at it. Since I'm in the hunt for a F50R, I'm thinking this could give me an idea of what kind of tone to expect from a F50R. The body and tone...

I went and done it... picked up an SJ200. I need an intervention!

So, I've been in the mood for a jumbo for a while now, looking high and low for a NH F50R burst, but still haven't found one, so in the meantime, decided to help out Gibson with their financial troubles and picked up a 2017 SJ200 Sunburst. Its a store demo, so got it at more than half off...
