    Tinnitus

I have tinnitus. Went to two ear exam places for tests and they say I have hearing loss. Apparently the frequencies I can't hear any longer get replaced with noise. They say a hearing aid would help. But they are too expensive for now.

Opinions on buying a new F-512 vs. a vintage one

How is "vintage" defined for Guild? Does it include the 70's or only the two decades before that?

    Phone Rant

One of my colleagues actually encountered a tech person who showed up. With access to her computer the tech transferred all her savings to an offshore account. I am not sure if she managed to recover it (retired shortly after the incident).

    Phone Rant

I am at the age when as a little kid I marveled at the portability of the transistor radio, and a few years later they brought out the integrated circuits which started to make devices more mysterious. Now I am looking for ways to de-digitalize my life, with more appreciation for mechanical and...

    New 12 string questions

They are what they are. I played both 1512 and 2512 in a store side by side and while they are much better value than a real 512 it is obvious that they are in a different class than US built guitars. I really liked the 2512 as a fun and versatile guitar that seemed sturdy and with built in...

    Recording king closing down

I also did some searching and there is a lot of corporate back and forth. I think that SLM is mainly a distributor for many well known brands, almost all string brands included. But they also seem to produce a few of their own brands like Alvarez guitars. It is not clear if and how production of...

    Guild 12 Fret D Orpheum

No they have not been in retail for many years. That is what you may be able to get a used one for. The list price ten years ago was double that.

    Recording king closing down

I never had opportunity to play one but they had good reputation. Very sad to lose a good alternative choice for acoustic players. I am not optimistic about the next few years.

Surprised to see Jim Dunlop, I thought they were family owned and was not aware of takeover.

    Anyone know anything about leptospirosis?

Sorry about my poor choice of words. I tried to be supportive. Often we wonder about vaccines but they serve the purpose of reducing the risk of even more unpleasant encounters with health providers (and associated costs) if infection occurs. It looks like the link to avma did not work so here...

    Anyone know anything about leptospirosis?

Well it's considered a core vaccine and if you care about health for the dog you don't want to miss a core vaccine. However, you can also do an exposure risk assessment. The bacteria come mainly from cattle and wildlife, and if you are in a city and your dogs don't really drink from uncontrolled...

    Breedlove and Bedell sold .

I also got the notification though I have to admit that I very little awareness of Breedlove and Bedell guitars. I looked at their website a few times but never encountered one of their guitars anywhere. The notice got me curious though and a Google search suggests that the Bedells are cashing...

    NGD 2012 G-312 Standard

Congrats on finding this treasure. I wonder if you can pinpoint the reason why this is easier to play than some of the others. Is this something with the guitar such as scale, or neck size or shape, or the way it was set up with action at nut and 12th fret, or relief? Or something else tangible...

Why isn't there an American-made OM line up since all these years?

Thanks I was not aware of that, so they are bigger? Is it not the same body size as the Orpheum 12 fret 000 version, just with longer scale and 14 frets to the body? I always thought mine felt pretty big, but never compared to proper 0M.

    Local store closure announced

Although Peter closed the store and repair business, he keeps on building and churning out high end guitars and mandolins. This one really caught my attention, a Stella inspired ladder braced slothead 12 string. He posts his builds on his Facebook profile. This one at a 4k price sold within less...
