    Fishman black stack in d-40

Another Rare Earth blend fan. The Fishman mag is a big part of it. I did my duo gig outside on a patio, quite loudly, with no issues. It is permanently in my Martin 00 15. Part of my buying decision was I wanted a pickup for loud bands and the mag part is plenty good enough for that. Add the...

    Mgr guild d35

I wouldn't swap, but I have a Martin D 35 Custom that would get me halfway. I'm just not a rosewood guy.

    Mgr guild d35

A D 35 is the poster child for what you can have in a US built acoustic guitar for relatively little money. One has so far kept my urge to buy a D 18 at bay for a decade now. I'll have to buy a 39 D 18A at some point, but I won't sell my D 35 to get it.

Neck reset in SF Bay Area

Sorry to hear this, but I know he's phasing out and maybe taking on no new business. I'd call Stevie at mighty fine guitars or Steve Swan and see if they have any suggestions. Sylvan in Santa Cruz does good work too. I'd try Kent again in the mid morning and let him tell you for sure, but he...

    Guild D-55E through a PA

No experience, but the Anthem has been a favorite for over ten years now. I like the mic added to any kind of piezo. I think a Tonedexter is the only way to get a better tone, but I know a bunch of happy Anthem players.

Is the D55 the right Guild for me ?

My long time pickup of choice, Dazzo, is unavailable right now, so I went with a Fishman Rare Earth Blend for my 00 15. For an infrequent pickup user, I think it's a good choice. Adding a real mic to a mag pickup makes for a great combination, and you can trail the cord out the sound hole. I use...

If the neck is close to my 70 D 35, I can understand you liking it's playability.

Keeping a Guild out of the scrap heap is a worthy endeavor.

    Guild D-40 1973 “ Lazarus”

HiFi Duet would be my choice. A mic makes any other type of pickup sound better.

Is the D55 the right Guild for me ?

I reread your post and one thing stood out, you liked a guitar because it sounded more rock. A d 55 is a fantastic guitar, but more rock is not a description I'd use. Still, play, like, and buy will always rule.

Look, the guitar thing is so screwed up in many ways. I bought my 00 15 and played it almost exclusively for the last month. Enjoyed every minute of it. On day last week, I picked up my Texan and was slapped aside the head with bigger, louder, more better. Wondered why it sounded so much better...

    Guild D-55

The reason Adirondack is such a popular tone wood is its bright punchy characteristic. Those Authentics are popular with the bluegrass crowd because of that. Different tools for different jobs. I love the D 39 Authentics for their rear shifted punch. A d 55 is a much more sophisticated...

    Guild D-55

My 11 Santa Cruz D PW mahogany is pretty impressive. I can see why a D 55 owner might trade for a SC. Same sort of not a Martin tone. I'd imagine a Tony Rice would be a brighter, punchier guitar.

    A little confused.

Looks like a headstock crack to me, poorly repaired.

This is a guitar with great potential. Never seen pick guard cracks that prominent. Probably neglected when they were smaller.

Well the Baggs combo unit is supposed to be pretty good, maybe not loud drummer band good though.

    Accidental Hot Car

Hey, I once left my 65Texan sitting on two barstools at my open mic venue. Twenty miles down the road I had a panic attack. A kind friend who lived close by went back and got it. I was helping him out with his stuff and forgot to go back and get my own. If you want to be careful, buy a freezer...

Wow, that has to be rather rare. I'd much rather have the light weight of a 72 than a Chesterfield if I had to chose.

    M-20 pickup

    I'd suspect a K&K would work much better on an M 20 than a D 55.
