Bringing a Starfire back to life.

Is there a serial number in the back of the headstock or on the label inside the F-hole?

Tuners for a 66' Starfire iv

I would start by removing them, cleaning and lubricating with a dry lube. I have these tuners on one of my Starfires and they work and hold tune fine. Still not great feeling to turn. I personally hate seeing mounting holes from original tuners when replacement tuners don’t match the original...

Tuners for a 66' Starfire iv

Are they these with diagonal mounting holes (there are two versions of this tuner with different buttons and they can also have a cover) If so, then there are no known drop in replacements without drilling new mounting holes in the back of the headstock. Not a lot of love here for those tuners.

    Starfire III electronics

I will second the TV Jones English mount recommendation from @Smiert Spionam. TV Jones will also make them without the TV Jones etched on the top of the pickup. I have a set of black T-90 pickups without the TV Jones logo that I will be using in a 1966 Starfire IV I am bringing back to life that...

    Vintage Starfires

No obvious mods from that photo. Hard to tell if the finish is original. Those look like the Japanese tuners that were used at the end of the 1960’s. Grover Sta-tites were used prior to these tuners and the kolb Guild tuners were used next. The tuner buttons in the photo don’t match either of...

    Vintage Starfires

I have a few 1960’s Starfire IV and V guitars and love them. If you can post some pictures here that would help provide some comments on that specific guitar. That price is fair if it is in good condition with no material mods.

The return shipping label sent it directly to his luthier for repair so it will be fixed up.

    NGD - Almost

UPS delivered the 1971 M75 flamed maple yesterday morning. Here is a photo from the seller I let the guitar acclimate for four hours (I usually let it sit longer but the outside and inside temps were not that far off yesterday) and then opened it up. This is what I found: I debated...

New Guitar. A Decision Must Be Made.

All of my Guilds are vintage so I can’t give you any direct comments on the new Starfire. However, one of the reasons I like Guild is that they are different than other guitars rather than just being a copy of a Gibson or Fender. They have their own sound and feel. To me the Eastman is more of a...

    What model is this?

Here is a photo of a 1981 M80 that has been refinished in white. Looks the same to me

    Where’s the cat?

I was moving some of my guitars around last weekend and can confirm that my Guild alligator ”custom” cases definitely felt heavier than the same size “regular” Guild hard cases. I had not noticed before but after moving a few around it stuck in my mind

66 starfire 2 needs new tuners

I would start by removing, cleaning and seeing if there is something obviously wrong. Easier to do when off the guitar. even when those tuners work ok, there is not a lot of love for them around here. Unfortunately, I don’t think anybody has found a drop in replacement without drilling new...

    Aristocrat pickguard

I have a 1954 and a 1963 Aristocrat and can trace either pickguard one for you. The 1954 one has shrunk some so you might want to “adjust“ the size slightly if that is the style you need. FYI - A newer aristocrat pickguard does not fit my 1963. The shape, size and mounting holes are correct but...

    NGD non-Guild content

That is beautiful! A question for the acoustic experts - Given the comments above regarding walnut, why don’t we see it used more often for back and sides on acoustic guitars?

    Case Question for a 1960s M-20

The dimensions of the new M20 are on Guilds website (Link below). Since you have the vintage one in hand you could measure and compare. If they match you know the new Guild case should fit yours. https://guildguitars.com/g/m-20-in-natural/
