    NGD: NS Surfliner Deluxe

If you disassemble the tailpiece and clean up any roughness in the area circled in this picture, you might be able to rehabilitate the OEM tremolo. I’ve seen examples where the flat surface on the end of the bent portion was slightly rounded to make the action smoother.

    NGD: NS Surfliner Deluxe

I sure sounds good, however. I have a Squier CV Jaguar, which is Poplar, and sounds tremendous.

What motivated you to take up the guitar?

Growing up in the sixties was the perfect time to learn guitar. It was everywher. I’d watch various bands on TV and get to see all sorts of players. When Hee Haw came along, there would be segments with Roy Clark, and that was serious stuff. I’d watch the entire show, waiting for Roy to do his...

What motivated you to take up the guitar?

I can’t remember a time I didn’t want to play guitar. The first guitar part I remember taking note of was Grady Martin’s lead work on El Paso, and that would have been when I was about 5 years old. I remember my dad driving down a street where there were several rooming houses, used by residents...

    Newark Street Starfire Pickups

Perhaps there was a running change in the vintage ones. I have heard from several sources that the old Starfires had the same pickup balance problem, but specs have been known to change, and back in those days there was little documentation.

    Newark Street Starfire Pickups

My impression is that Cordoba doesn't intend to address this issue. As I understand it, this is vintage accurate, by why replicate an error which could be easily corrected?

    Future of Newark series

Agreed: if they're going to do it they need to do it right. IMHO, the Artist Award is one of the best, if not the best, sounding factory-built archtop. If they decide to continue the line, they need to make certain that they create a guitar worthy of the name. FWIW, my NS A-150 Savoy has...

    Future of Newark series

JMO: I'd be surprised if they did any US made electrics with the possible exception of a prestige priced Artist Award. Frankly, I'm not all that impressed with Córdoba. It think that they bought the lime for the cachet of Guild's flattop reputation and the NS line are a slam dunk; the heavy...

    Opinions on Crack

Same thing here. I was going to think of something outrageous to say and try to pass it off as crack inspired. How you doing, Gadfly?

Okay, what do people use Master Volume knobs for, anyway?

For my purposes the master volume is all but essential. As a general rule, I avoid tweaking the pickup volumes; I usually end up forgetting that I've changed the settings and have an unpleasant surprise if I switch pickups.

    NGD, N.S. A150 Savoy

I continue to enjoy mine. I play it a lot. It's perfect for my morning practice session which is some very specific flat-pick work and a number of Chet Atkins arrangements and a couple of Jerry Reed pieces. I just use it acoustically.

    New NS Capri

I'm very pleased with mine. It's got an incredible sound that is versatile and interesting. It's the ES-175 I always wanted, and a while it more.

    Newark Street Starfire Pickups

I think you are right about this. The CE 100 has a very powerful resonance in the lower register; think Duane Eddy sounds. Apparently that really hooks up with the bridge pickup and, at least in my experience, the balance is quite good. Guild recently sent me a 20% off coupon for accessories...

    Newark Street Starfire Pickups

I had the same experience. The Capri seems to work well with these pickups. My Starfire III is marginal and the T-400 was awful.

    Thought-provoking thought

I'm amazed by how good Speyburn is, especially considering that it costs not much more than rot-gut.

    What's a reasonable shipping cost?

Sounds like the UPS store at work. They run something that is akin to a scam; if they didn't pack it at the store then they claim that UPS will probably not honor damage claims. As I understand it, if you go directly to UPS this is not the case. UPS store or not, shipping has become much more...

    Thought-provoking thought

Now that is odd. I'm a moderator at Gretsch-Talk and I have an affinity for single malt scotch. Perhaps moderating drives one to drink. :)

    Glen Campbell "Witchita Lineman" solo

It was well known among his session musician peers that he could sing and he had made recordings as a vocalist for years with only modest success before Gentle On My Mind catapulted him to national fame. Up until that time, his Wrecking Crew peers would tease him about becoming a star. In...

    Glen Campbell "Witchita Lineman" solo

I noticed that as well. My guitar heroes tend to be few and far between; Chet Atkins, Johnny Smith, Hank Garland, Howard Roberts . . . and now Glen Campbell. The video you posted, plus other Glen Cambell videos I found on You Tube, add up to a very impressive dossier of guitar virtuosity. As I...
