Id love a NS M85 to go with my NS Starfire.

"My First Guild" -- post your photos here.

My first Guild was one of these I didnt keep it long. Sounded great plugged in but it was just too darn big and still not useful unplugged. Im not that big a guy, 5'7" or so. It put my arm to sleep reaching around it. Traded it for one of these which was really sweet. I was stupid to get rid of...

Guild Gad 150 vs Martin d28

Its not uncommon for a lightly braced and scalloped guitar to sound sweeter and more complex than a Martin Standard model initially. Get back to me in 30 years if you still have it.

    Gary W Tallent playing Starfire(s)

Took my wife to 2 Bruce shows(Nashville and Charlotte) last week. Mr. Tallent is playing Starfires quite a bit of the time now, aprox 1/2 of the 3 hr+ show. A red rear pickup only model that looks just like my Newark St. right down to the bridge and double thumb rests, and a blonde one in the...

Newark Street vs. '67 - An Observation

Zero experience with any vintage models, other than a borrowed M85 I played once a long long time ago. All I can say is I'm very happy with my NS Starfire. I find that for my purposes I get plenty of variety from the single bridge pickup. Most of my playing is alt country/garage rock. I use...

    Gibson Government Series?

The bottom line: http://legaltimes.typepad.com/files/gibson.pdf Typical Henry J "lifestyle" marketing. "Dey took er wood!"

New Starfire arrived today. Newark Street. 3 point review.

I've had mine now for a couple of months and I agree with everything you said. Some dive but with your arm resting on it, a wide strap and straplocks, no worries. With the stock rounds my low E was perfect, but was flat maxed out when I put on the Labellas 460FLs. As the strings settled in tho...

NAMM 2014: New Arcos Series AB-52E Electro-Acoustic Bass

I had a B50 for a while in the early 90s. Great sound but I found it just too bulky and uncomfortable to play. I could have lived with it if it would have hung unplugged in my bluegrass group but despite its size it still needed to be plugged in. I traded it for a little B4EC short scale which...

If you could have one back....

As Guilds go, I wish I had the B4 acoustic bass back. Of other guitars long gone, that 61 SG/LP has always haunted me the most.

Thinking of selling my Gretsch... talk me into it.

I understand completely. I've sold several great guitars over 30 years or so in a fit of gas for something else that I was really into musically at the time. 61 SG/LP for a cheap mandolin and fiddle and a nice old Kay upright. A Ric bass and a 51' ES125 for a Gibson Mastertone banjo. And several...

    Starfire NS - Bridge issues

I'm having a slight intonation issue with my NS SF also. According to the shop it came w DiAddRio 105-45s and the intonation was perfect. I put on some Labella DT flats 104-43 and my Low E & A saddles are as forward as they can go and still a hair flat. I may have to raise the bridge a bit idk.

Labella DT 460FLs vs TI Jazz Flats

Just a c-hair over 31.5" from inside edge of nut to middle of the G string saddle, best I can eyeball it.

Labella DT 460FLs vs TI Jazz Flats

To the center of the g string saddle? I'll let you know. Intonation is getting better BTW. E & A still a little flat at 12th vs open, but at least I can bring it up to pitch with finger pressure now. Its tolerable. Liking the tone of these strings. Have played em 2x in band practice now plus at...

Labella DT 460FLs vs TI Jazz Flats

I played them some more for about an hr this morning and I'm starting to come around to them. 1. Tone-starting to get a feel for them under the pick, and getting a lot more tonal variation now, sounding good. 2. Feel-feeling much slicker and faster today. Maybe I just needed to get a little...

Labella DT 460FLs vs TI Jazz Flats

Well I finally got around to putting on the Labellas 460FLs yesterday. Today I played them a bit here at the house. So far I'm undewhelmed. I really wanted to like these as I love them on my P/J. But so far I've got a few issues. 1. Tone. Seems to sound too similar to my P/J. I dont need 2...

Major Newbie Alert: Starfire III vs IV discussion

You bought the wrong Gretsch. Shoulda got a cheaper used 5120 with "Gretschbuckers". Much darker traditional humbucker tone. You can make them twang a little bit with some ht and pole piece tweaking, but still way more Gibsony than Gretschy. People yanked Gretschbuckers out of 5120s right and...
