NAMM 2013: Newark St. Collection Starfire Bass

Honestly if I had a grand to spare I'd have already bought the one advertised out of Brooklyn. Street Sounds is the shop. Seems like the instrument is there and ready to go. I wish they'd put up more shots, though - the one up seems like the same stock photo that's been around since the initial...

NAMM 2013: Newark St. Collection Starfire Bass

All I know is, there's a Starfire, with what's basically a Bisonic AND a harp bridge with wooden saddles (the 90s RIs with metal saddles totally wreck the tone for me - it kills the doublebass lurking inside of how Guild combined their set neck and bridge.. even on my JS it's got a very woody...

NAMM 2013: Newark St. Collection Starfire Bass

I don't know if I'm too worried about uneven tuners - I've seen on it lots of vintage models, so I guess those were done either by a tired hand or a miscalibrated machining tool? I mean, I suppose it's a bit sloppy, but it's not structural, and it doesn't impede the function of the instrument...

WTT 2nd Voice Deluxe for EQD Rainbow Machine and Organizer

Hi All - Well, I'll hit the shipping on this, but here's what's what: I have a never-gigged, tried-and-sighed INFANEM 2nd Voice Deluxe which isn't sitting in the chain as I wanted it too. It's fabulous for what it's advertised for: separate fuzz channel with active EQ, Harmony Fuzz with...

Tuton uses an Electro Harmonix HOG for a lot of his work, especially the upper-octave stuff. He mentions it in a few interviews and he's actually the reason I bought a HOG myself a few years ago.

    Nu Sonic pickups...

I heard a sample on TalkBass recently of a G&L that had been modded with Darkstars and a Redeemer preamp.. now I'm pretty much against active electronics across the board, but hearing some A/B tracks of the same bass with the Redeemer preamp made me seriously consider adding it. Not sure I've...

    Guild Starfire Bass ?

"Mine too was NOT a medium scale. My suspicion is that the 32" rumor was started on the talkbass.com forum... I see it a lot over there. I'm convinced the reason why people are mislead to think it's a medium scale is because it does in most cases "need" medium scale strings since there is more...

    NEW STARFIRE II BASS

Funny to note the Bi-sonic called a 'humbucker' on their page.. perhaps just a copy error?

NAMM 2013: Newark St. Collection Starfire Bass

What was the initial marketing issue with Hagstrom? I definitely want one of these.. Bi-sonics seem a bit mellower than Darkstars. I'm curious where these new ones fall in the spectrum. Funny to hear them say nitro isn't possible in Korea..

NAMM 2013: Newark St. Collection Starfire Bass

Re: Newark St. Collection Starfire Bass From what I understood the earlier ones were MIK but later ones are marked MIC on the back of the headstock. I haven't heard a bad word about either. Ironically there's not a single Guild dealer in Korea and I'm probably at most an hour or two from the...

NAMM 2013: Newark St. Collection Starfire Bass

Re: Newark St. Collection Starfire Bass Assuming there's no EQ on the amp and the tone is wide open, I'd say the essential tone I get from my Bisonic is there but there seems to be more pronounced treble.. anyone else getting that? Though truth be told I don't know how similar a JS w/Bisonic...

Re: Newark St. Collection Starfire Bass YES. I hadn't thought of this. I need to try to find some more info.. one week left until winter break is over, I can do it..

Well.. between the original Bi-sonics, and the Darkstar re-creations, and then the Chi-sonics, and then some of these boutique options (the Nusonics on one hand, Roger Daguet's neo-Darkstar on the other), I really like this resurgence in a wide spectrum passive pickup! I would love to understand...

NAMM 2013: Newark St. Collection Starfire Bass

Re: Newark St. Collection Starfire Bass I certainly hope so, not that there haven't been some rather lovely basses coming out of China lately. It's just if they're made here I can knock off a truck on it's way to Incheon airport!

Re: Newark St. Collection Starfire Bass I was talking to an acquaintance today at the main music arcade in Seoul, Nagwon.. he's kinda my go-to bass guy and I was asking him about this. His sense was given the difference in price between the US model and this one, it'd be made in China, not...

Old school psychedelic rock from Korea

Ooops - put this in the wrong area! Here we go: Shin Joong Hyun / Kim Jeong Mi "The Sun" Been really getting into this lately. For those who don't know, Shin Joong Hyun was (is, not dead yet!) a guitarist who was extremely active in the 1960s and 70s in his youth (he's in his 70s now), who...
