    Vintage Starfires

My 60's SFV has a 1 11/16" wide neck & is quite full, not shallow. It's also a fuller neck than my '96 SF4 which is also 1 11/16" wide. Can't say that it's a much lighter guitar either - it's a very solid piece. Never played a 70's Starfire but I believe GAD when he says they are narrower &...

    Dickey Betts dies at 80

RIP Dicky. What a great musician he was! Perhaps often unfairly overshadowed somewhat by the Duane legend. Best lead tone I have heard from a Les Paul neck pickup (not sure how he did it!) & just great melodic, lyrical playing. A master of his instrument and a great singer & songwriter too.

Congratulations Ksounds. These are great guitars & glad you like yours. Beware - my first Guild was also a JF30-12 - now I have a few more!

I really enjoyed that - quite original. Love the studio version as well. From the same session as above, he talks about the song which I found really interesting:

    RIP Wayne Kramer

^^^^ - Man had the moves! RIP - I saw Wayne Kramer in his band supporting a Radio Birdman reunion tour in 1996, here in Sydney. He & the MC5 were a pretty big influence on a lot of guitarists & bands I loved. The 1st verse of this song by The Clash is about him:

^^^^ Spotted that Guild in "O Lucky Man" in post #89 - video now deleted...Commented on how it had an unusual tail piece, not a harp.

Why Guild’s 12-string design is one of the greatest engineering feats of the 20th century

This is such a great performance - my favourite version of the song.

Why Guild’s 12-string design is one of the greatest engineering feats of the 20th century

I think I must have had Mediums on my JF30-12 (only has 6 strings on it now but I need to change that soon), but mediums on a 12 are 12-52, not 13s, lights on a 6 string are 12-53 - a bit confusing!! Might have to try different gauges on the 12. Already thinking that I should drop down from...

CCR - a few glimpses of Tom Fogarty's Starfire VI (I think) but the band play a ferocious version of their hit. John Fogarty with an Aristocrat:

A couple of "The Only Living Boy in New York" covers, featuring Guilds. This one is nicely done: Buffalo Tom did a version on their latest album a few years back. Here are Bill & Chris doing an acoustic version. Chris is a bit rough on his vocals but Bill's JF30, which he seems to have had...
