    112 vs 212 loudness

Maybe not a direct answer to your question but here's some basic information about power and loudness that could be of interest. https://www.premierguitar.com/gear/amps/how-do-tube-amps-work

Original bridge posts on Westerly made X-150D were way too short. New ones made a big difference in volume.

Clarifying- so the saddle and strings ended up at same height, the problem was the depth screwed into the saddle? Good thing you noticed. The bridge post is metric? Is that original?

    Truss Rod Versus Saddle

Rich - What GardMan and others said - adjust the neck bow first. Also check the “bellying” of the top of the guitar. Humidity can affect it, and if you suspect it may have been stored in low humidity it may require storing it in a way to bring it back up. Usually humidity is not a problem in the...

What do you think of taped bridges?

If taping, I would use double-sided Scotch tape (thin tape), as opposed to double-sided masking tape or other types of thicker paper tape. (And definitely not foam tape.)

What do you think of taped bridges?

Be sure the contour of the bridge matches the contour of the guitar‘s top, for maximum contact. Also, what’s anyone’s experience using violin rosin on the bottom of the bridge. I have some but haven’t used it yet.

Nut Saddle Pin Material 1971 D40

Experimenting with different pin materials a while ago, I was surprised at the difference they made. If you can get hold of some different pins it’s easy enough to switch them out. (Nut and saddle make a difference too, of course, but the pins were surprising and easy to swap.)

    What's a mellow-sounding bridge pin material?

Several years ago, being skeptical about bridge pin swapping, I improvised- sticking a chopstick in the pin hole (bamboo and the softer wood version), and balsa wood (softest). A quick experiment. The difference was surprising. I sprung for a set of ebony pins. Try something softer than bone for...

Strings, and saddle and bridge pin materials make a difference. Bobouz, curious what strings you’re using, and (especially) if you also changed the bridge pins.

Guild 1960 Freshman - Some Questions

Looks great. Not sure (no opinion) about the price. Of course any standard length neck can be turned into a short scale neck with a capo. The 1 5/8 nut width can feel a little tight. It also has the advantage (my opinion) of heavy gauge strings to drive the pickup. Hope you get a chance to try it.

    Lowered action, change in tone?

Looking: You adjusted the truss rod/neck bow first, correct? (Only asking because it wasn't mentioned.) Just want to add, in addition to the great advice above, that if you never swapped out bridge pins for a different material (bone, ebony, etc.) it's easy to do and makes a surprising difference.

Pround new Guild owner needing advice on setting up my 1988 D50

When you say "when the neck is straight," did you adjust the truss rod yet - that can make a significant difference. What's the relief at the 7th fret when the E string is pressed at the 1st and 14th fret? And as you mentioned, let it humidify for a while. In that bridge belly photo, is the...

    Guitar-stand dilemma

I don't know what they don't make guitar stands, or sleeves, using the same fabric as guitar cases. I bought some similar fabric but have yet to sew them into stand covers. I've been using String Swing hangers, no problem but I would feel better if I knew for sure nothing will happen over time...

I would return it and not risk marring a guitar. Which stand is it (so that we can also stay away.)

    bone versus plastic

The above methods work, it's not difficult to tell the difference. But another way - look closely for a parting line in the plastic from the mold used in manufacturing.

    Where t obuy a new saddle for a D-55 ?

Good point about checking the neck relief first. I totally get the idea of experimenting on a spare saddle. 3/32 sounds a little low, but if you go slowly and try it at incremental saddle heights, even if you go too low, you'll know where you should have stopped sanding, and you can use that...

    Shipping A Guitar

Comment on my "packing tape" handle description - it's flat to the box, but you can slip your hand through it. It's not likely to snag on anything. I simply put a piece of paper under the tape on one side so it doesn't stick to the box. Then write "HANDLE" really big and hope for the best. (One...

    Shipping A Guitar

There's good advice here already - and elsewhere on the Internet. Some advice I got a long time age was "don't pack air," meaning don't let anything rattle, overfill the box with peanuts (or whatever) and pack under pressure. Also, I like those Taylor plastic pieces too - get some if you can...
