Those are great guitars..... I have a '61 Starfire II with the mahogany body that tells me so..... Interesting to see the Kolb tuners.....and for me there's a lot to like with the single pickup version.

Love it., the whole thing......but especially the knobs.... I had one like that once, mine had the bigger 25.5" scale neck that was more often seen in the NY years.

I love that guitar! Simple and elegant. The replacement pickup looks nicely installed with the new pickguard.....bet it sounds great. I do enjoy the original DeArmonds,......but appreciate that no modifications were done to change this one out. Without knowing about A-350's built in 1967...

Thanks for sharing this....and love the family ties and memories. I have some old guitars where I learned the back stories from sellers that were related or friends of the original owners. Knowing some of this adds a value to me that's hard to describe., and I can only imagine how it would be...

Here's a late '62 T-100 DP with original sunburst on the left, and a '61 CE-100 DP on the right. Even though the '62 T-100 is is a couple years older, the sunburst is original and resembles the one in question. I think it's a variation in sunburst spraying technique/ability from back in the day.

I also have a '53 X-150 and a non cutaway '53 X-100. My experience is the same as Neals.....those old Franz pickups with the black covers sound expecially great through my '69 Princeton Amp and Princeton Reverb. So does everything else to be honest and likewise quite effective with early 60's...
