1959 Gibson GA8 Gibsonette: Rare Class A Design

They're great as is, but very bright, so maybe a different cap on the tone knob would be advisable. It's the only vintage amp I know of where I can't go past halfway on the tone setting.

1959 Gibson GA8 Gibsonette: Rare Class A Design

I'm still around, but not technically oriented enough to be helpful other than moral support. I still have my GA8 if you need a pic of something.

Martin headstock ftw...game over, thanks for playing!

It's funny to see max bling on the, shall we say, brutalist Martin headstock shape.

Do the Bisonic adjustment screws exert an influence over the strings, or only the pole pieces?

No, the screws are not used as polepieces, they only mecanically adjust the magnet heights, like a DeArmond Dynasonic.

97 Starfire II - Sounds like someone put a blanket over my amp…

I once had a bass rewired which came back sounding terrible, just murky and lifeless. It turned out to be due to my tech using sealed Japanese mini pots. They were the correct 500kohms, but they were high capacitance due to their design for some reason. We replaced them, and then everything was...

Strings - a (mostly) physics question

True of a sine wave, and of the fundamental tone, but with real world sound sources much of what we hear is overtones. This matters in this scenario because the AxeFX is to a great extent tasked with modeling overtones, since other than wave shape they are what makes one sound (at the same...

    Relining a case

Has anyone here done this ? I thought I would check with the brain trust before committing. I have an original case for an M-65 which has gone funky, by which I mean that the spots where the fabric touches the guitar seem to cause discoloration or oxidization of the frets and strings. Is there...

    NS X-175b and Tru-arc bridge

I have an aluminum Truarc on a Gretsch 6120 and brass Serpentune on a Duo Jet, very happy with both. I'm thinking of getting one for an M65 Freshman.

just while we're talking about it, the logo appears to be a non original decal or screened or sprayed version, so not meaningful for dating purposes.

    1967 Guild DE-400 SB

I've yet to play a Duane. Do they feed back at about the same volume as a 60s T100 or SF 2 or 3 ?

    Disturbing Starfire issue

that is a depression era Cromwell archtop, made by Gibson, with a pressed spruce top and the Recording King head shape as you see. It's a good player with a chunky V neck.

Stump the experts: Never-before-seen Guild guitar case

When Selmer was distributing Fender guitars in the UK in the mid 60s they supplied their own cases, so it is not out of the question that a Guild importer could have the same arrangement.

    2001 x-150 in black

Somebody has to say it... the original parts that you have would all look better, and while the Benedetto pickup is probably nice the Guild pickup should be a little brighter.
