    Rockabilly X 160

Yes, the Fender Frontline catalog from 2002 (and a page of specs printed off of the Fender website in 2002) says 16" x 3." But p. 180 on the 2001 Frontline catalog says 16 1/4" x 3 1/2" (close, but no cigar).

    Rockabilly X 160

My ('00), built in Westerly of course, is that "Icy Blue" color. They are all attractive, but I like the blue best. You might get the clear (newer) replacement knobs from Fender. They let the finish color show through better. As for that eBay listing, as far as I know, they were all fitted...

    DeArmond Starfire Special

"However, the USA DeArmond pick-ups on this guitar seem muddy and not as clear as the pick-ups on the Guild Starfire III. My Epiphone Elitist Byrdland and Elitist Les Paul Custom guitars are really great and on par with the Guild Starfire III. Any suggestions on how to get rid of the muddy...

    Questions about Guild humbuckers

"I 50% agree with Santfe here. As the owner of both types I would say my SF III with Dearmonds doesn't sound a whole lot different from SF III with minis. They are both twangy and pretty trebly. " I wasn't talking about the mini-humbuckers. I have no experience with those, only the...

When did Guild start using green?

Aw, they were just trying to keep up with Gretsch. No need for mysterious "Da Vinci Code" type explanations.

    Duane Eddy cases

If you can't find a case to fit (or at a reasonable price), Kris Katt in Canada will build you a high quality custom case for $120 (he built many cases for the similar DeArmond T-400, and would size the case to accomodate the slightly deeper body). You get to choose both the covering (a tough...

    PU change X-170?

Screw the goddamned pickguard. I took the one off of my Rockabilly. I like the GoldTones on my DeArmond Jetstar very much (I'm still trying to sell that guitar, if anyone's interested, not because of the pickups, of course. $300 with a tweed Fender case). The pickups sound both nice and...

    Potting PU's in Canada...

You're right about that, Walter. But after a few minutes, the temperatures are stabilized (the profile is relaxed, as we engineers are fond of saying) and everything is at the same temperature. The potting takes place with the heat source turned off.

    Potting PU's in Canada...

I haven't had any problems heating the potting was directly over a gas flame (you're not supposed to splash!), any more than I did when I used to immerse my hands in melted paraffin, as recommended by my orthopedist. I turn off the gas before the potting procedure begins. In fact, you should...

    Questions about Guild humbuckers

I'm with Jim Hall on this one, although it does depend, as always, on what tone you are after. If you want a really fat, high output pickup to drive the input stage(s) of your amplifier into distortion, then by all means stick with the Gibson humbuckers. The Guild humbuckers aren't as fat as...

    Guild X-160 Sunburst from 1990

"he changed The Guild Bigsby to a Real Bigsby unit... " The "Guild" Bigsby IS a "Real Bigsby." It is one of the nice things about Guilds (and some Gretsches) that the Bigsbys are cosmetically made by Bigsby to match the guitar they are mounted on. I can't imagine why anyone would want to...

when did guild switch to poly?

"Personally I would never get a guitar with just an oil finish or no finish at all because you have ZERO protection on the wood. That's probably the biggest reason to finish your guitar (to protect the wood) all that moisture absorption and loss and your guitar would warp and twist etc." But...

Guild No Longer Making the Dave Gonzales Model?

Gonzales model Hi guys. I saw a post somewhere (Fender Forum?) that said they were only making this model to special order. (This is only hearsay) Aren't the Gibson Custom Shop models (like the Duane Eddy) only made to order (you aren't likely to see one on display in a showroom :)) ?
