    Train wreck F-20

She indulges my little abused orphan instrument rescue sickness. She spends her money on short term, instant gratification crap that doesn't hold any value, and she recognizes that my stuff is like investments. I’m a lucky man. Except for the part about the house being full of Amazon boxes and...

She’s a PhD, so definitely not an idiot. Plus we have been in the middle of a brutal move the whole time this project was happening, so another guitar box, then case, was far easier to conceal.

I have indeed. It’ll be a miracle if I can keep it under wraps until Christmas though.

    Train wreck F-20

Well it’s done other than putting a pickguard on. Overall I’m happy with the rebuild. The finish aspect, not as much but that can be fixed. It’s a very fun guitar to play and I can’t wait for Christmas to see my wife open it. She’s been making comments about wanting to learn to play for awhile...

    Train wreck F-20

https://fb.watch/8SQW-JZIbw/ She’s all finished up. I think it sounds great. I’ll reserve judgement on the faux wear back and sides finish until I have it in front of me. I do kinda like that it is a little bit of a hat tip to how she started out when I found her. Wasn’t really going for an...

Pretty sure the guitar is done or really close. He usually doesn’t do sound samples unless they’re done. The case is in some kind of limbo with no tracking updates since the 15th other than “arriving late but still on the way to the destination”. It’s frustrating.

Pickguard from mavuser came today and looks awesome. Now if the case my brother in law sent down from Canada would get itself unlost in the mail, and to the luthier, that would be great. He sent a sound sample but I can’t figure out how to post it.

    That bottom one is amazing.

The one thing I miss from working in Eastern PA

I’m sure you are correct, and I’m not even from the Philly area. I just know that nothing tastes better than American on a well made cheesesteak. I will die on that hill. 😂

The one thing I miss from working in Eastern PA

THIS is EXACTLY what a cheesesteak is supposed to be. I’m currently in an area where they think it’s ok to use provolone…🤮

    F-20 Pickguard Poll

After some thought and picture comparison, I agree. I love the shape of that original guard, but the part that extends under the strings won’t be attainable.

    F-20 Pickguard Poll

mavuser was kind enough to reach out with a great option made from a piece of Westerly material acquired from Hans. I may leave it as is, with modification allowing for the soundhole size difference, or I may come up with a hybrid shape that is closer to the 50’s shape but larger.

    F-20 Pickguard Poll

Yeah I guess I should figure out how to close the poll…

    F-20 Pickguard Poll

Perfect. PM sent back. For this project, I can’t turn down one made from NOS Westerly material. That just really adds to all the other cool elements of this restoration. Thanks Eric.

    F-20 Pickguard Poll

I’m mainly a strummer and my wife and kids will likely learn on this guitar so…pickguard.

Angle grinder or the biggest round rasp you can find. Don’t play around. 😂
