1959 x-150 pickup, old or new?

with all the picture manipulation tools available even in the cheapest of phones, I don't think you can really tell by just looking at an online picture

    New Guild day T-100/SF

I'm afraid I don't. When Gretsch reissued this bridge in the early 90's, they actually came with an extra set of panhead screws. And then there was the Embiematic bridge, sort of an upscale-milled-out-of-solid-aluminium Melita copy that came with the panhead screws stock and sold them as a...

    New Guild day T-100/SF

Very cool guitar! Unsolliceted advice : Melita bridges become infinitely more playable if you replace the saddle thumbscrews with flat panhead screws, but they are kind of hard to find.

If there are no extra holes under the Bigsby mounting lip, it came with the Bigsby.

    X160 Rockabilly

I saw that one on Ebay (I think it was posted here too) - I guess I should have kept following it! It wasn't less than a new Starfire when first listed.

X160 Rockabilly, High E string Low volume, Low E loud

On the old ones, kind of, on the 2000's the attachment to the pole height mechanism is hidden inside the pickup. I wouldn't want to mess with it, in any case.

    Return to normal

And over here in Belgium we're on lockdown again for 4 weeks. My wife got both Pfizer shots already because she works in a hospital, otherwise vaccination seems to be moving pretty slowly over here. Not particularly looking forward to another gigless summer. 😔

Anybody heard of DeArmond - Squier connection ?

Well, there you go. The DeArmond line was killed off because it didn't sell. Sometimes truth is more logical than fiction. :)

Anybody heard of DeArmond - Squier connection ?

No, the Newark Street guitars are very obviously based on vintage Guild guitars, and really have nothing in common with the DeArmond guitars. Mike Lewis actually blueprinted a bunch of vintage Guilds for the Newark Street line, just like he did for Gretsch when the Gretsch deal happened. He...

X160 Rockabilly, High E string Low volume, Low E loud

No, there's only one coil in the pickup, for all six strings. The coil works, or it's shorted out, and then you get no signal across the board or very very weak signal. The only thing I can really think of is that the high E poles on both your pickups became demagnetized somehow, but that's...

Anybody heard of DeArmond - Squier connection ?

It's a popular internet myth, but no. I don't remember whether it was Mike Lewis or Joe Carducci who confirmed that it was pure speculation and not the case, but I vividly remember seeing it. It wouldn't make sense either. Can you imagine what Fender's R&D and prototyping of the Newark...

Anybody heard of DeArmond - Squier connection ?

That's been denied by several people involved at the time.

X160 Rockabilly, High E string Low volume, Low E loud

The ground wire has been changed a little on your pickup, but it really doesn't change anything, certainly not sound wise. And yes, they are the stock 2000's your guitar most likely came with. You mention it's in all switch positions...so on both pickups...? What string gauge are you...

Why do manufacturers put pots of questionable taper on cheaper/overseas stuff?

I don't think they're necessarily linear taper - a lot of audio taper guitar pots have weird or bad taper too. Also : guitars have a strange use for audio taper pots : as I understand it, they were designed for audio (amplifier) volume knobs, and you turn those up from zero. Guitars have...

    NUGD Newark St. Aristocrat Goldtop

The pickups on the Newark street M-75 have different pole spacing for neck and bridge pickups, so that wouldn't be ideal.

    Pickguard for 57 Aristocrat?

a friend of mine tried a new ("newark street") pickguard on a vintage M-75 with Franz pickups, and lo and behold - it was a perfect fit!
