    What are your musical goals?

Nice topic Dreadnut! Maybe what I love most about playing music is that it gets me out of my left brain. I don't play out - I'm not good enough and I'm too self conscious. My duo partner and I write songs individually and show up and play in my basement studio - the song writer on rhythm and...

    Amp buzz conundrum

Lol. I do appreciate the theories and will continue to debug. I just want to have nice sound and not die.

    Amp buzz conundrum

I'm getting the same buzz behavior on 3 different amps. I removed the original amp of concern and plugged in a different amp and got the same behavior. The other amp I have on the circuit also buzzes, but at a lesser volume. This makes me think it's not the amp.

    Amp buzz conundrum

Better if I touch the strings. Better if I touch the mic. I also plugged the sound system (amps, mixer, mics, etc) into an outlet on a different circuit from the lights in the room. When I turn on the LED lights in the room, the buzz increases 3X. This happens whether the sound system is on...

    Amp buzz conundrum

Yep, those were the first things, hoping for an easy answer! The fact that my X-500 was the only guitar that had zero buzz helped me figure out this is all EMF interference. So if we want another reason to praise the X-500, it appears to have excellent shielding. On the other hand, my 1999...

    Amp buzz conundrum

Good tip. I will get one. I know I at least have ground loop problems across outlets that I should fix. I think I've made sense of the buzz now, and the amp is normal. I found this page helpful. I noticed that turning off lights reduces the buzz. Holding the guitar increases buzz (added...

    Amp buzz conundrum

This amp is not vintage. It's two years old and came with a 3-prong. Now I'm stumped on this again as I plugged in a different amp and got the exact same behavior. Then I scrutinized my seemingly quiet Fender amp, and it's doing the same thing to a lesser volume. I'm going to get the...

    Amp buzz conundrum

Hi Nuuska, Thanks for taking the time to look at this. That all makes sense. The amp has a 3-prong cable. I've also tried changing the amp power cord. I've moved the amp to various outlets and there is always a buzz. Touching either mic, when the amp is plugged into the system power strip...

    Amp buzz conundrum

There is a Guild punch line to this question, but it's a sound system issue and I'm hoping one of the many techies here may have a quick answer. I've attached a (rough) drawing of my home studio. Apologies that some lines are power and some are signal and I don't differentiate, but hopefully...

    1976 X-500 with short frets

Hi Dreadnut, my serial number is 137191. It's a blonde. I wanted a sunburst, but this was the one that wasn't priced ridiculously high at the time. Maybe it was the frets.....

Here's a profile pic. Thanks in advance for any theories on the fret height.

    1976 X-500 with short frets

I acquired this guitar about six months ago. The frets are noticeably shorter/lower than my other guitars. I don't know how short because measuring that is kind of hard and I don't want to take the strings off. Is it likely that the frets were sanded down, or did these models come with short...

    Humidify Properly

My guitar room is 14' x 30' and winter humidity is 20% here in Colorado. I use an Aircare MA1201 humidifier that keeps it at 40% with daily water refill. But it's super noisy, so I also have small Homech Ultrasonic that I run while playing. It's silent but has small tank capacity and requires...

Your experience with the Korean A-150

I had a 2018 NS A-150 for a few months. The #1 issue was that it arrived from Sweetwater with a cracked top. The reason was that the case pressed on the volume knob and it was enough pressure in transit to crack the top. Sweetwater sent me another one and it had the exact same issue. I...

Getting back to the NS X-350 ...

Here are pictures of the serial number and the factory inspection tag I found in the case. I don't know how to decode the serial number beyond year 2020. Factory inspection date is 2 days before the date on the box. Does factory inspection mean Korea or Oxnard? If Korea, we still don't know...

Getting back to the NS X-350 ...

Did you attach that to the posts that are drilled into the top, or is it floating? And how do the sound and playability compare to the factory TOM bridge? I've decided I like the tone as-is, but always wondering if the grass is greener.....

Getting back to the NS X-350 ...

This reminded me of something I found curious with my NS X-350. I bought it from GC in December 2020, after the GC site said it had been out of stock for a while. The box the guitar arrived in had the below sticker from Cordoba, dated 2020-03-19. So what was this guitar doing between March...

A Guild Newbie says 'hello' to all

My friend and I tried out guitars together. He bought the 28. “Muddy” not necessarily a bad thing. Maybe also referred to as “woody”.

A Guild Newbie says 'hello' to all

Welcome Peter! I have a 2018 Oxnard D-55E sunburst. My previous acoustic was a rosewood Martin D-16RGT. Very different guitars in terms of neck and sound. Took me a while to get used to the D-55 playing acoustically because I felt it projected sound while the Martin enveloped the player in...
