TJH3113 on YouTube for bass parts on B-301

I was thinking about buying a B-301 and found a bunch of videos of the bass in use by a YouTube bassist named Troy, posting as TJH3113: https://www.youtube.com/user/TJH3113/search?query=B-301 The Guild's beefy growl reminded me of my first bass ecstasy, when the cover band playing a dance at...

T-100D Headstock Repair - is there a common way headstock cracks?

Coincidentally, I recently saw a local 1960s T-100D whose headstock had split, and I think I saw a recent online listing of a vintage T-100 with a fixed headstock. I'm afraid I didn't examine those breaks closely, but there must have been something wrong with that model.

    Starfire nut with angled slots

I just bought a 1977 Starfire IV that was discussed in another thread. It hasn't arrived yet, but I noticed in one of the photos (after I got past the truss rod cover) that the nut looks larger than usual, and it has slots that are angled toward the tuner posts. I don't recall ever seeing a nut...

Black splotches on the back of a mahogany neck?

Good thought! I hadn't noticed that the top of the neck is as dark as the splotches, so maybe the neck's dark lacquer was removed either by playwear or deliberate modding.

Black splotches on the back of a mahogany neck?

What do you think is going on here on the back of this 1967 Capri's mahogany neck? The guitar was sold to someone else before I could decide whether to bid, so I'd like to learn more now and be able to decide faster next time. The seller wrote me, "That is just oils from the players hand...

    Dating a MIK M-75 Aristocrat

Welcome, @eidling. Some reviews and price history of the Newark St. M-75 Aristocrat can be found on Reverb. As you can see, @GAD drives a hard bargain and has high standards on the used guitar market.

Help me identify my Guild model and price range please!!! Thanks!

That's an interesting thought. Did a Guild employee (in 1962) have 10 stamps and manually stamp each serial number's digits on the headstock? He might have been holding the 4 stamp from headstock 18524 when he began stamping 18525. I can imagine quite a few serial number mis-stampings emerging...

Help me identify my Guild model and price range please!!! Thanks!

Does it have a label with the model number and serial number inside the f-hole? The headstock's serial number suggests a date of 1970, according to Guild's published list, but the guitar's style is earlier.

Upgrading pots and caps on a new Guild Starfire 2 bass.

Welcome, Billy! As frono wrote, don't assume you need short scale strings, because the Starfire Bass has some distance between its bridge and the string anchor. Medium is the correct length for LaBella strings, I don't know about other brands.

I have a new love, it is an Epiphone

That's a pretty color. I hope the quality is better than that of my Epiphone ES-335 Pro, the "Pro" apparently signifying "Protruding Fret Ends."

Looks like Yoko was cutting his hair then.

What were the best years for Starfire IVs and Vs?

I haven't seen output measurements of pickups published anywhere, I guess because you would need a standard source to induce the current and also a measurement of output across a frequency spectrum. I've seen curves like that published for loudspeakers, and it would be interesting to see them...

This is pretty sweet ...the Beatles Starfire 12 string

Thanks, Bob, that's interesting. The video gives the impression that George ended up with the guitar, but I guess he was just borrowing it from John for a while.
