Sad news. I remember seeing his DE500 hanging up at the New Hartford plant on one of the LMGs.

Sad. His wife Deed used to spend time at the Gretsch Pages, when that still existed.

Yes, indeed. (pun intended)

She would post some of his original Christmas tunes each year, too. Not sure I can find any examples on-line, but if I do I'll link to 'em here.

I recall Duane & Deed being part of a small crew who visited a Gretsch Pages member nicknamed "Bear", who was ill and mostly confined to his home. Duane was one of Bear's musical idols . . . Bear was delighted that he got to play guitar with Duane that day. I thought that visit was quite a generous thing for Duane & Deed to do.

Consolations to Deed, and their family.

For those unfamiliar with Duane, here's a brief interview & a performance of one of his classic tunes, Rebel Rouser:

A sad day.
He was one of my first, if not my first, guitar inspiration.
I saw him live on a package show in 1959.
Damn.

NEVER forget his sound from the first moment I heard it. I actually had a sweater knitted to match the one he wore on his Especially for You album cover. You could say I was a fan...

So sorry to hear this--few did as much for the guitar as Duane. I am 77 now, soon to be 78, and so many are leaving us.

RIP, Duane. I hope you are rockin' it out with the other greats you influenced...

I had 2 LPs of his recordings back in the day. He was certainly a trailblazer in the guitar world with a different sound of his own. I remember buying more instrumental albums looking for more examples of the genre and finding the Ventures.
RIP D-uane.🙏

I just heard of the passing of Duane Eddy. I can still remember seeing him for the first time on the Dick Clark Saturday Night show in the late fifties. He was playing his signature Guild. This, more than anything made me want to play the guitar. So many great instrumentals. He will be deeply missed.
