Mmm... not sure I agree with that one. Either "lightning hit me" or "A lightning bolt hit me".
A vs An is for consonant sounds vs vowel sounds starting the next word. An hospital is the one that usually trips people up, but "a hospital" is so common now that it's usually accepted.
Unless you made a joke that went right over my head, in which case good job.
