"for life", and thank you.

Banned again from a "larger" forum, no idea why exactly, you never do, because there no message except "You been banned".

And good riddance, to myself.

I went back to read the dumpster fire thread, I knew I was heading for a ban, you always do when you "take bait" I guess I wanted it so I can concentrate on deep cleaning the house and fire readiness, and I saw the posts still standing of the person who started it all, and realized, I never want to read a word written by this person ever again.

And because of that, I'm going to avoid reading anything there from now on. So, "they" win. People who behave in ways* I don't get can go ahead and have the place. New age wisdom does little for me, and old folks like me don't know anything anymore.

On to a much better life.

Thank you, whoever you are.

And thank you LTG, for the sanity, friendship, and peace, as enforced by the mighty GAD.

*Openly and repeatedly attacking member's beliefs, like coming on here and ranting about Guilds all day, but negatively. I've never done that well in situations like that, disruptive behavior works on me a little too well.

Anyone has the ability to block postings from another user. Just fyi.
It sounds like Guilded was blocked from the whole site.

Happened to me once. And I was being civil, just trying to have a reasonable conversation about a topic that must've been more hot-button that I realized. All I can imagine was that the person I was arguing with was a moderator who just thought my ilk did't belong in the forum.

No sweat. There are plenty of other ways to fritter away valuable waking hours. Right, Guilded?

I’m just grateful that the mods here will often take the time to explain the undesired behavior before simply auto-banning. I’ve unintentionally said some things, as we sometimes do, that I later learned was frowned upon. Maybe its just harder to provide that kind of attention with a larger membership, I don’t know, but it’s one of the several things I appreciate about how this forum is managed.

10 years ago when I first came to this forum from the rough and rowdy world outside I had a scowl on my face and I know an early post or two from me reflected that. The good spirit and community that exists here sets a good example and I believe I learned quickly to appreciate and follow that. Thank you all.

I second this, Mikey. As a matter of fact, Chaz had to shut down one of my threads recently, and he PM'd me to let me know and the why.
Honestly, more of my posts should be shut down, if not for the sheer inanity....

If inane posts were a crime we’d be a lot busier. :)

In the olden times of Usenet a user on rec.skiing.alpine got themselves hit with a restraining order against posting. One more inane post would have been a crime. The unmoderated site was unusable after the flame war that user had a big hand in starting.

I had been banned from a forum for two years by a person called basalt 'sandlane by the sea' (i.e. 'beach'). So I thought to myself, that's tough, and 2 years from now when I'll come back, I will want to avoid that person, but since I might have forgotten what its name was, I must write it down : then I choosed the "ignored" button in my private space, and wrote the name down. 'Moderators can't be selected in this file' (or alike), was forum's answer... Then i had to find something else : 'what about modifying the name ?' said I.
Guess what (what would you have chosen) ? I picked up basalt bitch (the reason for being banned was indeed quite unclear)...Then now, I'm banned for life :giggle: : if it was a trap, it was a tricky one, wasn't it ? Makes me smile now but it's been a trauma then (quite liked this forum).
(No 'taunting mods' was done before the 2 years ban like they said - if I remember more or less correctly what they said -)...

Bye bye LTG friends, it's been a pleasure, see you in LTY(amahas) if ever it would happen here...😉

Visiting that site this morning, and the only possibly interesting post are so inane, and often just clickbait "Leo Fender was a hack who got lucky" type thing, and my favorite darling apparently, the TM. It all adds up to a lot of time wasted, not much learned, no friends made, just for a chance to talk guitars. The last time this happened, I eventually re-upped*, went back, starting all over again, sharing what I know, posting nice pics, etc, "becoming part of a community" that isn't really there.

There's a few top echelon folks who are wise, and always right on the money with advice. They hardy if ever post, usually just setting the record straight when needed.

I hardly ever posted but usually well received, never a problem in any thread I ever posted.

On a daily basis, I think what was more baffling than anything else was the almost insanely lengthy posts in defense of proving negatives, that things we "know" don't exist, "all woods sound the same", new vs old, species, none of it matters and only addled old folks like us think it does.

It's like the invention of a science disproving any science and even all real world experience, when these folks - the TD crowd - get going, it's gets so complicated, Einstein would have trouble keeping up.

Ultimately, it's an attack - and a truly nonsensical one - on another person's belief system, and that should never happen, in person, online, anywhere.

A wise "grandmother" once told me, "It doesn't work out like you think it will with other people because they are not you, so they are not going to respond as you would." In your head you think someone is going to do the right thing because that's what you would do but it's an unrealistic expectation.

*This time I'll never go back, breaking the cycle becoming accepted on a site, well liked, having a lot of laughs along the way, just to experience that kind of sudden loss.

I dearly love old Strats but I didn't last long on the S type page some years back, the daily barrage of folks trying to tear Leo down was too much for me, and I booted myself out, and I've never wanted to go back for a second to repeat that experiment.

I used to be the Engineering Manager for a small ISP and was very well acquainted with Usenet. I still used it up until about 4-5 years ago.

I worked with a guy recently who still uses IRC daily!

I didn't know it still existed! I haven't used it since about 2003.
The last time I used it, I was interfacing through google groups (also about 2003) -- which apparently pulled the plug on Usenet this winter:
Starting on February 22, 2024, you can no longer use Google Groups (at groups.google.com) to post content to Usenet groups, subscribe to Usenet groups, or view new Usenet content. You can continue to view and search for historical Usenet content posted before February 22, 2024, on Google Groups.

.....can't say I've missed it to be quite honest.
