I built a house fifty years ago, on a shoestring--we had no money at all.
A friend and I roofed it, running around on a steeply pitched roof with a 25 foot fall to the ground--didn't give it a second thought, it had to be done.
You couldn't get me on a roof now for love nor money--I do not do ladders at all, nada, zip, zero, zilch these days.

I was up on a ladder painting the peak of my garage when I disturbed an angry hornet's nest. I descended that ladder a bit too fast...
