I usually get my strings from whichever local shop I can, but none of them have an extensive selection. Mostly Martin, Ernie Ball Earthwoods (I like them), and D’addario. I’d like to try out something new for my recently acquired D-25 Elvira.

Criteria:

Balanced tension 11’s. I have some left wrist issues and I want to keep the tension down.

OR I’m also open to running 12’s and tuning down. The only problem for me doing that is when I go to jams it can cause some confusion with capo positioning. Not a big deal really.

What “Boutique” strings have you all tried that blew you away? I’m looking at Stringjoy but would like to hear some recommendations. TIA

Shoot I have no boutique string experience, but my go to's on my D40 are DR Sunbeams 11's, which are round core so a little less tension, and Martin Monel 11's.

D'Addario Silk and Steels are perfect for this kind of situation.
And they sound great. .10-.47s, but they play a bit bigger, with some low tension and easy on the finger pads.

By play a bit bigger you mean volume doesn’t suffer too much? I’ve been curious about those for awhile.

Martin Retro Monels 11-52 = really really great tone.

Silk and steels sound pretty, easy to play, but lacking in volume, tried em, got tired of them.

DR has good choices also.

Santa Cruz has some interesting sets that go by tension, I was just gifted a set, need to figure out which guitar deserves it.

exactly, I did not mean they feel fatter or harder to play. they are super easy to play. But they sound bigger than they should.

I had high hopes that this string thread might be different and populated with boutique string sets I had never heard of before. But nope - just the usual suspects. :)
Oh I went on a crazy thread a while back, posting about all sorts of strings I never heard of...It was as chaotic as the beer thread...
Strings by Mail has one of the most eclectic string collection I have seen. One of my faves is Dogal, which I think is based in Italy. Their light gauge bronze string is incredible. As an example...

My friend with the '49 Martin D-45 just put Elixirs on it, a .012-.053 set and he likes them.

Me? D'Addario phosphor bronze XLs .010-.047 ...

Never heard of Dogal until watching the video posted at https://letstalkguild.com/ltg/index.php?threads/woven-core-bass-strings-check-it-out.212996/ Now I wonder how many days I need to do without an overpriced flavored milk beverage masquerading as coffee so I can try out a set.
