We should get a regional gathering / jam together.

It has already been established that there are LTGers who will make the trip to New Jersey and enough of them to make an event worthwhile. The problem is planning and organizing such an event because some folks would come to see @GAD's treasures, some would come to see highlights from @The Guilds of Grot collection, some would come if someone else promised to bring a 60's vintage Starfire bass for inspection, some would come for a Taylor Ham vs. pork roll cook off, some would come for an all Guild jam and some would come to reconnect with friends.

For a good dose of humanity at it's best....yes it's still alive and well, despite what the news is selling....check out the film Thirteen Lives on Amazon. A Ron Howard film based on a true story of a boy's soccer team that gets trapped in a vast cave system in Thailand when monsoon season comes early and unexpected. Really good!!

Why is it that when you finally get all the issues with your pool settled the end of swim season is only a month away?

And... why is something you only need every 7 years so out of stock this long after the pandemic is no longer one? Ex: Chlorine generator cell for a saltwater pool. ( See above )

Because LOTS of people switched to salt in the last 2 years....based on necessity unrelated to Covid. 2 years ago the manufacturing plant of the country's biggest pool chlorine manufacturer burned to the ground....and to make matters worse, the facility right next door which makes the specialized buckets for said chlorine also burned. 3" hockey puck chlorine tabs were borderline impossible to find. Commercial suppliers used the little they had for their pool service contracts and what crumbs were left for the public were marked up 300-500%...if they weren't fake non chlorine chalk tabs from china! .....so that's why there's no salt water head units or cells. (I have 2 extra) I replace them every 3 years...but keep the ones that were still generating chlorine efficiently...just in case) I maintain 2 pools at work.

And I'm supposed to take LOGIC as a reason! I refuse to be diffused!
🤣 I don't always condone it, but in this case, yes! Especially when it comes to my having driven 1/2 way around the state to find chlorine tabs last year....paying upwards of $500 for a 5 gal bucket's worth that typically costs around $70 and only lasts me a month of a 4 month pool season (one I am contractually obliged to fulfill....it's part of the amenities for the slipholders at the marina I maintain) :(

https://www.bicmagazine.com/industry/refining-petchem/lake-charles-fire-partly-to-blame-‘worst-chlorine-shortage/#:~:text=The%20fire%20destroyed%20BioLab%20in%20Lake%20Charles—one%20of,BioGuard%20Smart%20Shock%20blue%20algae-killing%20crystals%20and%20others.

There were estimates that upwards of 1/2 the backyard pools in the country were inoperable last summer.....unless they switched to a salt chlorinator.

A pool would be quite nice.
On these blistering hot summer days, my work really takes it out of me. That's why I keep swim trunks/several extra shirts/towel in my work truck, and regularly jump in the pool at work at the end of the day before my daily 1 and a 1/2 hour long drive home. It's my savior!!

You're doing an excellent job of maintaining the pool. It's spotless!

Do you do the grounds, too?

No, I already have too much to do. We have a company that does all that. I do all the bi annual recaulking of the pool coping, plus annual sealing of the stamped concrete, and paint the pool every 3-4 years. It's a sizable property, and just one of several I keep up. (Basically every trade you can think of....except gas lines. I do electric, plumbing, tile, wood flooring, doors/windows, drywall, painting, roofing, commercial kitchen/bar equiptment repair, boat lift repair....you name it. )

You can sort of make out that same pool in this overhead shot just above the restaurant building.

That's admirable. I wish I knew how to do what you know how to do.

For every trade there are professionals - as I understand you work on a farm - even though I've spent several summer on a small farm in my childhood - I could not make it. I used to put the horse in front of carriage or a rake machine and do the job. Yes - some little do I know how to do.

But like Dylan sings : " . . . Can you cook and sew, make flowers grow . . . " - or - can you make a piece of land grow food ?

We - as population - need someone for every task.

Be proud of yours.

Don't feel too bad. It comes at a terrible cost for someone who enjoys playing guitar (and violin!). I regularly come home from work with busted up hands. Wood splinters, metal splinters, cuts, scrapes, burns, and general aches and pains. There are days when it straight up hurts to play, but I do it anyway. I'll play with bandaids on fingertips w/ cuts on them. Wiping blood from my fingers seems to be a weekly occurance.

This is just from this morning.....digging around the back of a refrigeration unit (full of hundreds of bottles of beer...so I'll be damned if I'm breaking my back to empty it so I can move the unit to easily get to the clogged condensation line from the back. I just took the front panel off, laid on the floor and reached past the razor sharp radiator fins to get to the problem. 4-5 bloody cuts on my hand later....problem fixed.

Today's news:

1660243340399.png

Made it almost 2 1/2 years before it finally found me. Grrrrrrr. Mild symptoms and I'm vaccinated and boosted out the wazoo so I'm anticipating it will be but a mild inconvenience.
