When I run across one of those abominations, I always threaten to flip it over and use the track ball as a mouse ball in the way <<insert your favorite deity here>> intended.

I'm also old enough to remember mice with mechanical X/Y sensors. The sensors and the little rubber mouse ball would get impacted with dust, food, mousepad schmutz, etc. to the point they'd have be cleaned.

I would archly announce, "Time to clean the mouse balls!"

Still cracks me up.

Cleaning the regular mouse ball is a breeze compared cleaning the tiny thing inside Apple Mighty Mouse - just to rip the thing open without making it useless takes at least half an hour - and once you have all those 1/16th size parts rolling all over your desk and figure how to reasseble the fricking thing. . . .

Why do mice have small balls?

Because not many of them know how to dance.

I too, have never liked the thumb ball or whatever that style of device is called. In my case the wrist motion feels more comfortable than rolling with the thumb.

And even with these trackballs, you gotta punch the ball out and CLEAN THEM!! Gunk gets everywhere!! And they keyboard gunk and crap needs cleaning along with the mouse ball, and it's socket. But easily done and then I'm happy again.... :ROFLMAO::LOL::p

Hey man that's the environmental niche of the endangered Tardigrade! What are you doing with that gunk?
