Don't know if any of you caught her special last night. I've never really listened to ger material all that much, mayne not at all. But I watche the entire concert last night including all the darned commercials.

That lady for sure has great pipes.

Yes, I saw most of it! Great talent! No autotune anywhere in sight!

My wife really likes Adele, so it was on in the house. Personally, I have a hard time with anyone who’s singing relies on a lot of shouting. It just comes across as harsh & piercing - kind of like being stuck in the car with a persistently loud talker. No question she can sing & no question she can write, but I just have to leave the room when she’s performing. In particular, it seems like many female vocalists do this - but to my ears, a beautiful voice literally drowns in a sea of volume.

Different ears I guess. I heard very little of what you're describing. If anything, much of it seemed a bit understated (to me anyway).

Well, as mentioned, I was out of the room for much of the time, so maybe this performance was toned down a bit from what I’ve heard on CDs. That would be nice! And like you said - different ears. But your descriptor regarding her great pipes is spot on because she really belts it out a lot - and that’s where my ears have a problem. Guess I’ll go put on some Joni, or maybe Madeleine Peyroux, or early Peggy Lee w/Benny to hit the sweet spot.

Adele's new release is heavily advertised on French radios, literally forced down our throats with a lousy introductory speech that mentions that "her net worth is supposedly 175 million dollars". A good reason perhaps to listen to her (everybody here had completely forgotten her!) Oh yeah? Really?175??? That's a good point! Might listen, must be good, then...Yeah , I think I'll give her some of my money to help her reach 200 millions...Oh, and did'nt she struggle with a divorce and a diet?!!!Poor thing!!! An old French joke says "Elle est où, Adèle? -Elle est morte, Adèle!!" (A pun on "Adèle is dead" and "mortadella")Very bad taste! Let her sing somewhere in the distance, who cares?

Not sure why net worth would be considered an integral component of talent but then again, I've been out of touch for a bit. I'm really not opposed to anyone obtaining wealth provided it's gotten legally and morally. In fact, it's a key tenant of Capitalism and I wholly support that whole process.

Adele unquestionably has talent, and congrats to her on achieving such a high degree of success in a very challenging business. Her singing style doesn’t appeal to me, but clearly it does to millions of people, so good on her. As noted, I just leave the room if need be, and without missing a beat, the world keeps right on spinning!

I'm with Charlie on this one. Adele and Lady Gaga are pretty much the two premiere vocalists of this day. However, as talented as Adele is, I find her music to be mostly the same. Same production, same style, same mood, just more of the same. Very little variance on her take and style. Now, Lady Gaga is all over the place and has no fear in challenging music that she does!! I find her more engaging and a more rounded entertainer. So both talented, but LG knocks it out of the park that Adele stays comfortably in. Just my opinion. Don is a huge fan of Adele, so I have to listen to her a bit more than I would normally.

It's more than ok that we have different tastes, likes, dislikes etc. in artists and styles of music. In fact, that's the way it should be. I just didn't see the tie in of not liking her because she has a boatload of money.

Not all that important either way in the total scheme of things I guess.

Sorry folks,I got it all wrong! I do not mean "I don't like Adèle because she is rich", I just pointed out that my radio keeps on telling me she has XXX money in the bank. I'm certainly glad she doesn't have to beg to eat, she deserves every penny she earned, I was just wondering: "Why do they tell me that? "

Lady Gaga is extremely talented. Old school star - music of all genres, movies, etc. Reminiscent of Judy Garland, Cher in her prime, etc.

Here's the 60 Minutes story of Bennett battling Alzheimer's and performing one last time at Radio City Music Hall. Gaga is a part of the show, this is a great video.

Adele and Lady Gaga are my favorite modern female vocalists.
I've always been a bit put-off by Adele (not really sure why). But then, I used to think Gaga was a joke, until . . . . I heard her sing at Biden's inauguration, and then . . . . with Tony Bennett! Maybe I'll come around to Adele too.
