Not sure I like a guitar with a hole in the side...

Some folks pay a lot extra for the so-called "sound port" on boutique guitars. I've never tried one personally, but I've heard that it makes it easier to hear how the guitar sounds when you're the one playing it.

On another note, kudos to Gibson for trying to make American made guitars more affordable for people on tight budgets. I've yet to try one, but some of those price points are squarely in Asian rim territory.

Pretend you uninstalled a factory Fishman?

We've seen this feature before. It is touted as allowing the performer to hear what the audience does. But sometimes I wonder of it is better when I can't hear myself. :)

And Gibson wouldn't be authentic if they would not invent a new trademarked name for it!

"...is equipped with a Gibson Player Port™. The Player Port is an original Gibson concept from the early 1960s that has been refined by our acoustic luthier team to deliver a truly revolutionary sonic improvement that adds a new dimension to the sound. The Gibson Player Port allows you to hear the guitar as you're playing it as you've never heard it before—the same way your audience hears it—maximizing the sonic impact for an immersive playing and listening experience. And they take credit for it - "original Gibson concept from the early 1960's"...

...now they can sue all the boutique guitar makers.

The only thing I like about the hole is it will make getting my pick out of the guitar easier!

I've played several high end luthier-built acoustics that had a sound port. In general, I like what I heard. It's sort of like having a floor monitor during a live stage performance. However, I'd always be worried about the side being weakened from the port.

I'm thinking a couple of vertical flat strips on either side would allay my concerns. I tend to hug my guitars pretty tight..... :D

Nice build specs on that L-00, just wish it was a little bigger, I might actually go to Guitar Showcase to check one out.

I played an acoustic with a sound hole in the same place once -- maybe a Breedlove? It was an effective monitor.

Personally, it would just increase my chances of losing my pick.

after all the lawsuits Gibson has filed in the last 30 years this would not shock me even though I doubt it would hold up in court. It would end like the Dean V lawsuit. “Ok so you waited nearly 40 years to do this?…” then it gets thrown out and they have egg on face

If these are US made, it's kind of like the WM-45 which was hugely successful model.
