He visited Rick Beato in his studio and showed some riffs. In particular, in the beginning he talked (and showed) the impact on his playing of learning to play the bouzouki as a young man. Cool stuff!

Beato in small doses only. He is a very good interviewer, let's the person talk, but again, small doses.

Also love Phil X! When you get past the initial rocker dude persona he exudes, he's a truly competent and professional player and chops monster.

I'm curious to know what it is about Rick Beato that irritates you guys? Is it his over-exuberant enthusiasm in his vids?

Honestly, he always reminds me of so many "band geek, music school nerd, jazzbo" kind of people that I knew from musician circles I used to hang in, which doesn't really bug me. He's kind of a sharp contrast to the varied personalities of the punk/post rockers, metal heads, goth rockers, hippie players, indie rockers, Americana players, and other musicians I knew. He's definitely done a lot of varied things in the music field, and I can respect that, as well as his focus on music education.

I subscribe to his channel so I must like him. But some of his videos are too much talking and pontificating. He's at his best when he breaks down a song ("What Makes this Song Great"), dissects the current Top 10, or interviews an artist. He has a great ear and it's cool when he shows you what an artist is playing.

He has a few videos of his young son, who has perfect pitch. Those are really unbelievable.

Ah. I can see that. I'm also subscribed. He does tend to go off sometimes. It surprised me how accepting he is sometimes of some newer music, but he is definitely opinionated about certain aspects. I find myself agreeing with him about some of these things, too.

I also like his "What Makes this Song Great" series and astute analysis of song production. The amazing videos of his son are astounding, and it makes me curious about his ear training method.

Love Phil X from his Fretted Americana vids. The guy is a monster player.

Rick Beato, on the other hand, irritates me like crazy.
I know there’s a few that don’t like Rick. What’s the reason? I probably only watched a few of his vids so I really ain’t too familiar with a lot of what he does.

I remember Phil X from the Fretted Americana series on YouTube. Seems like they couldn’t keep anyone as a host ever since Phil left for bigger gigs. Then they got that Jared guy who was promising but also left for greener pastures. I used to look forward to new videos of Phil on Fretted Americana. Glad to know he really made a name for himself.

See posts #5 and #6. I think only GAD really can't stand him! :ROFLMAO:
