The early ‘90s seems to have been a very solid era at the Nashville facility. I have a 1990 Chet Atkins Tennessean that’s a pleasure to play. Hope you have a ton of fun with that one. Congrats & Enjoy!
I'm not sure is Wine Red, that may be more a standard Cherry or Trans Red? There's nothing really wrong with the color, and Gibson's shoddy construction at the time didn't help, as you could see the multi piece top through the red finish.
I never had a problem with Cherry on SG's, but the Wine Red thing on Les Pauls, let's just say it kept me from chasing after those guitars.
In the early 70's Jeff Beck played a very famous 1954 Les Paul (not Custom) in "Oxblood", a rare color, and methinks that's where Gibson got the idea for Wine Red LP's.
Congratulations! That is one gorgeous LP. Nothing like a good LP. My GT has defeated all comers at my house for 50 years.
Play and enjoy it in good health!
So sweet ruedi! That's the one Gibson I'd love to have, although with chrome hardware. Bobouz is right about that era of Gibsons (the good wood era), too. They tend to be really resonant. Congratulations!
As you can tell by this detail, the guitar has been played a lot:
Wanna know why? Because TONE.
This thing is a monster! And it turns out it is a really good combination with my ToneKing Amp! These two and a little bit of reverb will keep me happy untill the day I die.
