Depends on technology.

As music moved from CD to digital my listening habits changed.

I am in range of a decent classical music broadcast radio station and sometimes it is easier to turn on a radio that is already tuned to the station than play a CD or mp3 or stream.

If I want to hear something familiar I will play a ripped CD or figure out how to use the dedicated CD player again. That usually means the first or second Doors album, Jefferson Airplane's Volunteers, Zeppelin I or II and Jefferson Starship's "Blows Against the Empire" which for me has stood the test of time and remains a fine example of when the songs on a CD (or record) were designed to be played in order and in its entirety. When I want to get lost in the music it tends to be organ music usually Bach or early 20th Century French Composers.

When I want something different I will stream one of several stations I have seeded on Pandora. Disco and New Orleans style brass funk seem to occur a lot.

Commander Cody and His Lost Planet Airmen
WFUV compilation disk
Relix compilation disk

In Rotation in my old car with CD player and no bluetooth or input jack.

At home we listen to whatever strikes our fancy on youtube and we stream a couple of radio stations we like: WWOZ from Nola, WHEM from Long Island and WFUV from NYC.

WWOZ has become a bit of an obsession with me lately. I leave it on for the dogs while I'm at work!

That ain't no lap steel--that's Buddy Emmons on Pedal Steel!

You're right there! I was too focused on the sound haha! I have an early Fender Lap Steel myself, so I can jump to conclusions.

Love that and I'd Walk Across Texas to be able to play the licks Leon played.

That's too good:ROFLMAO: I have got the first half of the lick down, I just cannot finish it. He does a lot of hammer-ons and slides when he plays.

I still drive my 2002 Camry -- has the best CD player sound system I own. Probably one reason I still own the car!

Notice you're in central Virginia. Lived in Raleigh, NC for 35 years. There's a great classical station, WCPE, outside of Raleigh in Wake Forest that broadcasts 24/7. Began in 1978. They stream on the web, etc. Wondered if this were the station you were referring to. I listen to this station all the time here in Florida, now. I'm like you, sometimes it's just easier to turn on that station and let them choose.

WETA out of D.C. It is a NPR/PBS affiliate with an interesting history. WGMS (Washington's Good Music Station) was a commercial classical station and when they finally went under WETA got most of their assets. Consequently WETA is more like a traditional music station with NPR elements than the more common NPR station that plays classical some of the time.

You should check out WCPE -- non-commercial, "listener supported" station. Top notch operation.

A key factor in my choice of music player was that I was using broadcast radio technology. i.e. listening on a radio and not streaming over the internet :) But it is on my radar. Thanks.
