I am waiting for them to be shipped and available. I am on the list at Sweetwater and can't wait. I do wish they would have black pick guards. So much classier looking and NO aging toner of any kind!!! What a waste of good wood coloring wood like a baked pumkin. What Martin has done to their line has chased me away. Everything made with aging toner or vintage toner and this antique white binding which looks like chit. Chris is losing it. Can't for my D-55 with its beautiful headstock and bright white binding to frame it all. Anyone know of any changes?

You mean changes compared to the 2020 model? You could always contact Guild customer service through their website and ask. They are usually pretty helpful with questions regarding to the current model line.

It's funny how different strokes are for different folks. I was never a fan of white binding. In fact, until I read this thread, I hadn't stopped to realize that every guitar I've got has beige binding. Guilds and Collings. : ) And, I'd just read a thread on a different forum in which guys are talking about putting their guitars in windows so the sunlight will darken them. : )

As a veer, Mrs. Fro. had the opportunity to choose between a New Hartford F-30 Traditional and F-30 Standard. She got to play them side by side and listen to them played by LTG friends. The difference in nut width was insignificant to her. When she finally made her choice of the Traditional the tortoise shell binding, instead of the white, was a big factor.

I LOVE "Grained Ivoroid" but I hate that "antique white" Looks dirty imho.

Not a fan of white until the lacquer over it yellows. I have a Martin D 35 Custom. Thank goodness it has maple binding. Collings Ivoroid is very classy. I have tortoise on my 00 15 Custom. It makes the guitar.

I don't like pure white wood. I have two Ponos that have engleman tops. Grates on me much more than tint. Chris Martin is doing just fine.

Wonder if the pandemic is causing the wait times.

In fact it was the sunlight exposure that darkened up the top of my D25 so nicely. I love it. But it was done over years of outdoor playing.

Am I correct in guessing the note of sarcasm I think I detect in your post would be more about the potential for overheating behind glass, as opposed to any potential damage caused by UV?

Yes. I live in Florida, and the sun can be quite destructive here -- I am thinking primarily of the intense heat build up on even interior surfaces exposed to sunlight through windows in my home. I'm in coastal central Florida and have lived in coastal southern Florida where sunlight can really play havoc. As a Floridian I've always associated sunlight with bleaching rather than darkening. Apparently this is not the case with guitar tops.

Yep, it's the lignins in the wood that darken over time, as well as the NC lacquer. It's why old newsprint yellowed in just a few weeks, too. UV accelerates the process pretty quickly.

My D40 and my F65ce, which have only ever been out of the house a couple of times each, and are stored in their cases, are both "white" next to the D25. It's an "NT" Natural Top, but now it looks like what Westerly called "Amber", like honey-colored.

Apologizing for the extreme veer, but you can see it in action here if curious, last 20 seconds or so are best:

Lemme try to tighten it up a little and say "It's one of the reasons I think NCL is better and I'm glad Oxnard's still using it on D55's" :)

I used to own a particular DV52 that when I bought it, it had a light colored square right in the middle of the top on the centerline. I either showed that to Hans, or sent him pictures, I don't recall, but Hans said it had probably been sitting in a window with the sales tag on it. The rest of the top was a beautiful golden color, except under where the card had been. On the Collings forum, guys are talking about doing that very thing....no real heat, but subjected to direct sunlight in a air conditioned home. They say it works for aging a top. Never tried it myself, though I have seen the results on "tanning" them.
