My awesome Hercules guitar stand is shedding black junk on my hands (and my guitar) from the black foam-ish type wrapping that's on the guitar-holding parts. It doesn't feel like deteriorating foam, but it's like black ink-ish .... Washes right off, but I'm depressed that I'm going to have to throw these great stands out now.

Anyone else have this happening.

Charlie, haven't seen the problem...but the company reps were always nice at NAMM.

Have you contacted them? They can't fix it if they don't know about it.;)

I see you added info.

That old? nothing is forever.

Maybe they'll be nice and send you replacement coverings...or offer to re cover them for you.

Send them a note. I had three stands replaced for free due to the plastic deteriorating on the older spring loaded adjustment system. The plastic gets kinda sticky, and then brittle. They were a pleasure to deal with, and were happy to send me the newer style stands.

This is after I curled my hand around the neck holder and twisted it. Ick!

That looks like the foam is breaking down. Doesn’t look like it’s replaceable, so they would most likely have to replace the whole thing.

Gosh, I hope this isn't happening to all their stands from that time... I always liked that they used foam instead of rubber, which melts NCL of course.

I think I'll do that, Sandy, but have you seen this before? ^^^

I haven't, and I'm not sure I've ever seen a Hercules stand like that either. That must pre-date the 2011 models that are the earliest examples I own. Mine all have the spring loaded yoke that the guitar hangs in.

Canada .... brrr
I think this is well documented for their older stands. The ones from the last five or six years supposedly are made of material that will not disintegrate in such unpleasant way.

Yes, circa 2008 - 2009 I think. Honestly I can't remember when I bought 'em, but it was around that time I started getting back into Guilds, so I think it was then.

Yuck! I agree you might as well try calling them - nothing to lose! Good luck!

Right. Call them. The Hercules (3) that I bought in the last year or so, came with sleeves that were packed separately and had to be installed before using the stands. So, you can get replacement sleeves from Hercules.

A fear I have, also. My stands are not Hercules but I put sleeves from old cotton undershirt on top and remainder of undershirt on bottom. Not very appealing to the eyes but alleviates the problem.
