I'm just waiting on the thaw to see if the one frozen pipe will burst. I've had power since I am near Longview and get power from Louisiana, not the Texas grid. Water is turning into a bigger problem for my daughters, as everyone is dripping water since the pipes aren't insulated much in Texas. Houston and Dallas have it worse.

Wonder why we're not hearing one word about FEMA?

There's lots of aid heading that way Marc. I had to drive to York PA the other day for a mock-up, and there was a huge line of utility trucks on I78 (from New Brunswick!), and they were heading that way. And federal aid has already been declared.

Also, the acting FEMA director was on the news this morning, and they already had people in Texas working on the covid-19 crisis. So they already had boots on the ground when this happened.

Nothing to wonder about. The news is there and if you're not hearing it it might be that your sources aren't covering it or showing it to you.

The disaster declaration was made prior to Feb. 17 and FEMA is responding.

Yeah I was just surprised that I hadn't seen anything about FEMA, but then we don;t have TV. Glad they are responding, these folks need help and they need it now.

I just read that the power grid is back up for the most part.

Haven't heard from TX in quite a while. I know he got busy with other concerns. Hoping he's well!
i would bet a paycheck he was as prepared as anyone reasonably could be, and has been helping others the entire time

Driving home from the Paris Coffee Shop on Magnolia Street in Fort Worth, I heard the newscasters say that the Emergency was officially over. I don't think that means, 'All is Well', but perhaps we're on to the next step, helping people with their homes, including plumbing and water quality issues. Wish us luck!

I was really glad to hear that you made it through this relatively unscathed. As we said, the world needs Harry!

I wonder if new laws will be written to update the building codes for utility feeds.

Who knows, considering that the majority of that grid is designed to shed heat, not retain it.

I see the President has declared TX a major disaster area, that should help expedite some federal aid.

Perhaps if I had capitalized Disaster Declaration or added "Major" it would have made it clear that the declaration was made by the President?

FEMA's ability to respond or the aid it can legally provide varies based upon whether the President has declared a Major Disaster or an Emergency or not. Generally FEMA has to be asked to come by the State or told to go by the President. That arrangement also determines how costs are split between the various levels of Government.

The President's "Major Distaster" declaration was just issued today. His earlier declaration was an "Emergency Declaration," which got the ball rolling with FEMA.
