Getting set up to record my “1960s songwriter demos”. Tape deck needs some adjustments but it’s coming along. ‘68 D40 from Seth/Bonneville has been my most steady guitar I’ve had in ages and is working well in this setup.

Sweet! That is the setup I would love to have to record some solo guitar releases in lowfi fashion. In the past I've used a Wollensak cassette recorder unit and a Marantz casette field recorder.

Yeah, what a cool setup it is. Look forward to hearing the songs. What microphone you gonna use? Does it plug straight into the recorder?

I have a ‘60s Shure 565 plugged in in the photo, but a ‘72 AKG D202 (“Soundrocket”) is the one I’ll probably use. Still in the experimental phase.

Yes this is an Ampex 602- a tube recorder w built in tube mike preamp-mid-‘60s.

Nice. Does that machine have line outs?

Yep, but I don’t have a digital setup- I’ve been analog only for a long time, and now trying to get going with this minimalist suitcase recorder after having full on studio setups in the past. I just recorded this video in the room with my iPhone mike with the line out of the tape deck plugged into my stereo + speakers.

This machine needs some work before I can make legit recordings on it.
