Merle Travis & Chet Atkins playing together anywhere. My two favorite fingerpickers, I don’t know if they actually did this in public, but they made one album together - organized by Chet.

Townes Van Vandt at the Old Quarter
One of the more organized performances of Gram Parsons in The Flying Burrito Brothers or solo
Blaze Foley
Mountain when Leslie West was still in his prime
Allan Wilson era Canned Heat (post Alan Wilson was good it’s just if I had to pick one era of the band it obviously will be the one that made them famous.)
And Little Feat

There was a concert in Los Angeles back in 1969 in which the Holy Modal Rounders opened for the Bonzo Dog Band...I found out about it a day later. Those were the groups I wanted to see the most up until that point and it flipped me out that they'd played the same show and I'd missed it!
At least I'd seen Ry Cooder and Little Feat (when they were a foursome with Roy Estrada) open for Beefheart at the Shrine...

Feb. 10th, 1968:
Jimi Hendrix, Blue Cheer, Electric Flag, and Soft Machine (this would have been the tour when Andy Summers, eventually of the Police, would have been with them)
(And remember Bloomfield was a founder of Electric Flag, and Jimi loved Blue Cheer's sound and Soft Machine's jazz-influenced vibe, so he must have been in a musician's paradise that night!):

I was 11, I thought Marvel Comics were the coolest thing on the planet, and I was listening to the Beatles and Herman's Hermits and the local AM top 40 station.

I didn't have a clue about that kind of music.

Yet.

I wouldn't have to turn it back very far. I am 72 and the first concert I attended was a Miriah Carey Christmas Special about 15 years ago.
Have been to five "The Earl's of Leicester" (bluegrass Flatt and Scruggs music, only) concerts and loved them.
Growing up without a family car (daddy owned and drove a school bus), on Saturday night we really did sit around the wood be stove in the kitchen and listen to the Grand Ole Opry on WSM (We Serve Millions - insurance). And sometimes we listened to Vanderbilt basketball games against Tennessee and Kentucky.
No concerts but wouldn't swap eating popcorn and homemade cookies with my family--nope wouldn't change a thing.

You'll laugh but this is really what I've said for years "if I could go back in time"

1978. Rochester NY Aud.

Santana.

During the show my girlfriend at the time asked me to get her a beer...as I waited in line out in the hallway Carlos slid into the opening of Europa.

Talk about crying in your beer...OR HERS......didn't get back to the seat until the next song.

Aside from the obvious 60's Beatles, Stones and Who choices (keeping in mind that Jagger has said the Who were the best live band of all of them), here are my dark horses
- I'd love to have seen the J. Geils Band in their 70's prime.
- Duke Ellington in one of his dance hall gigs.

Also, Big Country's early 80's New Year's Eve gig that was shown on MTV (and still can be found on YouTube). That just looked like an incredibly fun time.

I don't know that this qualifies as "music history" but I would want to go back to the program where my mom sang her first solo at the church she still goes to. I was in grammar school so not very old and don't remember much about the program, but I do remember she was very excited about it. I wish I had paid more attention and then told her how well she did.

Saw the J. Geils Band around 1976, with opening act the James Cotton Blues Band. What a great concert!

I think I wore out my copy of Full House, their live album. First I look at the purse!

Thread veer... One of our school district secretaries , who has now retired, admitted she was at Shea Stadium for the Beatles. I asked her if she was one of the screamers that made them decide not to tour anymore. She said, " Um maybe. "

I can't think of any historical concerts I would have liked to see, off the top of my head.

One recent one that had to be cool was the Snarky Puppy " We like it here " concert where every listener was in the room surrounded by the band and the record was recorded live. They all had headphones on getting a feed from the mix. No drunks shouting out things. No people deciding that they had to stand up the whole concert, right in front of you, so only they could see, when you are all half way back in the Hollywood Bowl. No people holding their phones up to record it and blocking your view. No groups that show up late and just spend most of the show talking to each other right next to you.Yeah. The " We like it here " thing is sounding pretty good.
