Hi there from Austria, I'm new to the forum and I'm looking for some information on a Guild D-62NT Co designed w/ G. Gruhn, Westerly, which is for sale near the place I work.
I guess it's from the mid '80s (seller thinks it's from 1976) and seems to be in very good condition. Asked price is $ 1900.
Given, that prices for American guitars in Europe are always quite high, I wonder if this is an ok price?
Does anybody own that guitar or played one? What do you think?
Thanks and kind regards, Michael

Welcome to LTG!
The SN chart I use dates the SN of that D-62 to 1985. Sorry, I can't give any estimate of it's price... but perhaps someone with copies of the vintage guitar price guides will jump in.

it's a good price as i doubt these Guilds come up often for sale in austria.
how much more above your ideal price is the seller asking? as that really is the true cost to you. i mean if you are willing to spend 1500, then really D62 is costing you $400.

know what i mean?

Is this mahogany? I thought the Gruhn D64 was maple, and the D66 rosewood. Do you have any more pics?

Hans?

I say that is a fair price on what looks like a guitar in very good condition. Very good description and doesn't look to be hiding anything. If you have been looking for a rosewood Guild - and have the money - might just buy this one. Believe you could recouped your money

Hello gjmalcyon,

Even though that guitar on Reverb is listed as a D-62NT it is not! It's a DV-62NT and a completely different model from a different period!

Sincerely,

Hans Moust

I should have seen that... that's why I couldn't find it SN, cause I was only look at the D-62s. I knew the rosewood and herringbone didn't seem right for a D-62 from the 80s...

Can't speak to the value, but these are great guitars.

You'll know once you play it if it's worth that much to you -- I suspect you'll think it is!

Hans?

Hans didn't address the woods of Viennoise's D-62... But, according to Beesley's book a D-62 from 1985 should have mahogany B/S. Beesley says "slotted diamond" fret markers, but some instruments known to have dot markers (unless Beesley wasn't aware of the mislabeled DV-62s?).

Thanks everybody for your quick replies! Some more pics attached.
Mahogany B/S (my guess) and dot markers. Nice chair, btw...:)

Awesome. I've seen pics of the F-42, wasn't aware Gruhn made a mahogany dread. Not many made if the serial number charts are correct.

Not sure on the price, never seen a comparable sale. Considering you are in Europe, the scarcity of the guitar, the codesigned Gruhn label and the condition looking at the pics, probably pretty close on the price. I would say it is worth a test drive.

Have you played it?

No, I didn't play it, since we are having a hard corona lockdown in Austria right now. No chance...

It looks like a mahogany back, behind the label in your first photo. And yes, I realize the back is laminated, but it should be the same type of wood on the outer & inner layers of the back.

Given that this is a relatively rare guitar, and assuming no expensive maintenance is needed, I think it sounds like an acceptable price. Particularly in Europe, where prices are higher compared to the US.

Neat guitar, I like the waffleback tuners. Anything to do with Gruhn is gold to me.

The beauty in this one is probably more than skin deep, I think Gruhn designed the bracing to be special but I barely know what I'm talking about here.

A future collectible no doubt, and condition looks to be as good as you would expect for a rare guitar.

I always try to buy for a little less, but if your desire to own it becomes paramount, forget about the money. You can't play money, and the way it is devaluating, much better to turn it into something both more enjoyable as well as a better investment.

Welcome to LTG Michael ! We have some very active members from Austria as well!
Nice D-62! Hope you have a chance to bring her home!
One thing more to think about. When you would find such guitar in the US you would have to add the cost of shipping and the 20% Austrian VAT (Mehrwertsteuer) plus a smaller tax for instruments (like 3.5% or so) when importing her into Europe. So a lower looking price in the US might turn in quite some higher endprice for us Europeans. Plus all the issues with importing rosewood like on the fretboard.
