Hoping to tap into the group's collective experience:
I've never had the opportunity to play any Guild 12-strings with anything other than a rosewood back and sides; I currently own a '77 F-512. What am I missing out on? If I were to look for a second one (likely a Guild jumbo of some sort), would I be better off with maple or mahogany? What do you all prefer?

I think maple will provide a greater contrast to the rosewood than mahogany will.

I previously owned a Corona-era F412 that was bright but too chimey for me, but my 1970 F412 is one of my favorite guitars. Loud, bright and clear, compared to the dark, warm sound of my rosewoods.

I'd go with maple. I had a very nice F212XL out of New Hartford. Compared to my maple archback JF30-12 out of Corona, the hog 212 just didn't do it for me. Your miles may vary!

Jeez, I even commented in that thread and didn't remember it. Great playing and very instructive, GG. I love how big the 412 sounds in that clip.
