So, I've been playing some of the illegal aliens a lot lately, those being some of my Gibson and Martin Acoustics. (no worries, they all have green cards and are here in my house legally) This morning I was feeling a bit Guildy so took my D 20 Oxnard acoustic down off the wall. I hadn't played it in quite a while.

I bought this brand new from a store going out of business at what I thought to be a superb price of $749 shipped. I've owned Martin D 15's and other similar all Hog guitars but this one is better, hands down, than any of them. It has that sweet, full and woody tone you'd expect from a nice Hog guitar. I love this thing. I gotta say even more than my Westerly D 25's so in my thinning the herd path I'm on I may have to consider letting at least one go. Mine is the version without electronics which is just fine because I don't plug in much anymore and when I do I have a whole lot of other guitars with electronics.

If you haven't played one of these and see one come up at a good price I don't think you'd be disappointed. I surely am not. I'm not attaching any pics here. You know what these look like, there's nothing unique or special about it and there are tons of on line photos that are much better than anything I could do.

Damn! I looked at that one when I was at your house but didn't play it.

While I gave the Br to my daughter Rae who is learning to play now, I been playing it on the side and the flat back Guild all hog dreads are just fantastic. The tone is special. I got D’Adarrio EXP light phosphor bronze strings on it and wow and I surprised by how much I like the coated strings. I just bought a couple more packs for me. 😀

I feel like a good picture should be added to this thread, so here you go:

Were all D 20's satin finished?

I'm not normally a fan of satin, but Ralf, that just looks RIGHT!

Good to hear it's pleasing you, Richard.
Might have to try another one of these days - didn't like the first (and only thus far)
D20 I had. But it was a handsome instrument, well made and nicely finished.
Very strong varnish smell to it though - very odd.

Their satin finish is in fact catalyzed varnish.
Richard, I believe all D20's are satin although even as I say it I might recollect a special run of glossy ones?
Like for Sweetwater or one of that type of seller?
For more than you ever wanted to know about catalyzed varnish:
the "Finishes" thread with appropriate and largely on-topic veers.

I absolutely love the sound of my D-20. It's the first all-hog guitar I've had but I really dig it. Making me want an M-20 to go with iit!

I'm typically not a satin fan either (except on the neck) but it really works well on this guitar for sure.
I must admit, I like my Satin finished 1997 DV52 better than I did the 1993 DV52 and I liked the 1993.

very, very, nice Richard. I own Hoboken and Westerly flat back mahogany top D-25's, and have been itching for a possible Oxnardian D-20 (maybe even a Corona after that). they are the only 6-string dreads I own or play
