A New Guitar Day

Last winter I detected a for sale ad - there was this guitar with stand and gigbag plus Peavey Audition Plus guitar combo amp. It was about 110 miles away - local pickup only. I happen to have a good buddy in that town - so he went to collect it and paid for it. I had absolutely not the faintest idea of when I would go there next time, but he said it's no issue - he can store them untill someone happens to be driving this way. Today is that day.

Being late and no more good daylight - I'll take pics tomorrow. It is missing B-string . . . - but neck is straight - low action - tuners turn easily.

One humbucker at bridge - volume and tone - stringblock like in S-300 - bridge is adjustable, but narrower that that in S-series

Headstock is like the old "paddle"-Guild headstock.

Made in Indonesia - nice translucent red M-55 DeArmond

In coming days I will plug the amp and see if I got my 100€ worth

Congrats Nuuska! Does it look like this photo?
I'm a newbie to the DeArmond line but so far liking what I'm seeing.
If this is it, it'll look good next to the Red Songbird - interested in finding
out how you like it :)

A fully functional Peavey amp - needs some cleaning.

IMG_4248.jpg

Mandatory "nice guitar w ugly foot" picture

IMG_4243.jpg

Need to cut those string ends - where's my cutter?

IMG_4245.jpg

These tuners seem to have very low ratio - maybe 1:12

IMG_4247.jpg

No buckle damage either

IMG_4240.jpg

That's reflections of my garden - only thing not perfect is the missing tone knob cap.

Notice - that all I did so far is wipe dust - adjust truss rod and put new plain strings. Theres some Schiessdräckch round pick-up - that has to be cleaned. I'm very impressed of how wide range of sound I get with just turning the Tone - biting sharp to mellow soft without mud. Intonation is fine, too. Perhaps I work a bit on nut - maybe. Not absolutely necessary.

Finally there's this picture for Tom - who asked if I had a Pope-Mobile - well not quite - but this is the same model that Pope-Mobile was built of. A 1998 W163 MB ML320 - a thirsty thing.

Oh - did I say, that I got all this for 100€ - had to drive 10km to collect.
And despite of being a "cheap" bolt-neck flat body single pup version compared to the nicer M75 - I'm very very positively surprised of overall quality.

Nice. I especially like the captions and the awareness of things in photographs that are of interest to the community.

Those knobs show up from time to time on ebay and Reverb. I'm sure you can find one in the future.

Ralf

Yes - I might keep eye on those - when I bought the guitar last winter without seeing - I figured I could always just clean and set it up and sell it with little profit - ditto with amp. Now it seems that the guitar is staying - fun thing - like a poor man's Bluesbird or Nightbird . . .

Meanwhile I have cleaned the Peavey. I first unscrewed the amp, the handle, the corners, speaker baffle and speaker. Pressure air got rid one poodles worth of dust. Then I took the cabin and handle to backyard and washed them with pressure washer. After drying I added some shoe polish. Didn't do anything for metal parts - they still show age - I'll leave them as they are.

Pictures above are before cleaning .

A good cleaning makes difference.

Congratulations on your new DeArmond. I've owned a few and found them to be really well built guitars. Enjoy.

I actually Googled "Schiessdräckch" just to see and got not one hit except for referring me back here to your post!! LOL!!

You could pm Ruedi and ask - it is my transcription of 1970:s Züridytsch expression . . . 😅

Ralf should have pretty good idea of it, too . . .

I like the extra CH you added in the end, we indeed pronounce it with a lot of guttural sound (a strong K so far back in the throat you could blush with shame pronouncing it).

Plus rolling the "R" more than germans - I loved it - in my prime there was a moment, when a german woman asked me if I was swiss - I said "No" - she said Österreich? - I said No - she said - Ah, I know, you must be from Beyer . . .

Rûdi - how do YOU spell Küchenkasten? In swiss!

. . . Mani Matter

Congrats! The Trans Red color looks great! Looks like a 1998 serial number and IC = from the Indonesia Cor-Tek factory in Surabaya.
The 1998 catalog didn't show the M-55 yet, so that is the 1999 catalog info:

They come up from time to time on ebay or reverb. Even with feet in the picture!
