Except for Hans and Rich, most people don't see many of these. :) I wish Guild had kept this body shape for all the big box archtops, but alas it was not to be.

Every time I see one, I'm taken aback at how classy those old style tailpieces look, compared to the later, cast ones.

Not sure I follow you here. That is a "cast" tailpiece. (Although it could be forged.) The "3D" hinged design was always used on the archtops. The thinner body tailpieces were stamped out of a sheet of metal.

Those early ones are engraved whereas the later ones have the swirly decoration cast into the piece.

Actually almost a very rare instance when Hans was wrong and had to correct himself that it was no A-500 but an A-350!
Ralf

A funny detail is that I actually dated that very guitar a couple of years before that, not knowing it was the guitar that was used in the movie. I didn't recognize the guitar when I saw the photo that was probably a 'still' from that movie; not a great quality shot!

Sincerely,

Hans Moust
