What are your impressions of the New Hartford Guild acoustics?
Is this regarded as a good era of build and quality?

You’re about to get a flood of love for the New Hartford Guilds, and from what I’ve seen deservedly so.

I have two: the R35SE resonator and a F47R...the build quality is great, and they both remind me of the Hoboken and earlier guitars I have.
Very lightly built and resonant.

Some years ago, a bunch of us here on LTG visited the New Hartford plant for an all-day tour. The tours were held annually for four years.

We got to try out a bunch of models. I'd describe the quality as outstanding. I was especially impressed with the jumbo 12-strings and the resonators, but they were all impressive.

Simply put, yes. My '11 F-30RCE is a great guitar!

Haven't played all models but have played D40 from Hoboken, Westerly, New Hartford, and Oxnard and thought the New Hartford was best of those. Seem to be a little better to me. My unprofessional opinion

I’ve owned 4, still have 3, have played a few more. Excellent guitars. Typically lighter than Westerly and they made some models with wider necks.

I'll give you a million dollars for your resonator.*

*I won't do that, but I'll buy it if you want to sell! 😎

Fit and finish of the New Hartford acoustics is excellent. The results in terms of quality, feel and sound are very impressive.

Ah, no. Sorry Gary. It's my crossover from Guilds to Dobros, and it sounds quite different from all my other resonators. That's always been my excuse for buying another instrument--hey! this doesn't sound like my other (fill in the blank)! Besides, although I find it pretty fancy looking compared to some of my other resonators, I thought you were about the bling--maybe you need to get one of these:

Granted, it's not a Guild, but maybe it's time to branch out...

Wow, Not a question I would expect from a 10 year member :) Short answer is they are fine well made instruments that can hold their own against any competition. Long answer is to try the Search function or just ask about specific models.

Thanks. I had to ask. :)

That Dobro is cool as hell. I've always wanted a silver National.

I have a New Hartford F-47 , and it's a great guitar.

That said, I'm getting to play more of the current made in Oxnard ones as time progresses, and I wonder why they're not getting more love on here. I've played a brand new D-40 traditional last week, and it was spectacular - impressively lightly built guitar that had some serious power, bass and projection for a brand new, unplayed guitar, and you didn't have to hit it hard for it to put out a LOT of sound.

I can't wait for Oxnard to start building F-30's and F-40's, and yes, I'll probably be very irritated at the names they come up with for those when they do, but if they're as good as the guitars I've played so far, I might give up the idea of looking for a nice Hoboken one.

My observation is that not many people have actually purchased them yet. There is a lot of feedback on the M-20's which have been out for several years but all the other new models are in the first couple years of production. That is what I would expect from the New Hartford experience - it takes LTG about five years to amass experience with a "new" factory.

I have an Oxnard F412 (I refuse to call it a F512 Maple). The build is super high quality, the finish is thinner than that on my New Hartford F-40, and it sounds fantastic. It's better in every way compared to the Corona F412 I had, and that guitar was no slouch. There's nothing bad to say about the Oxnard guitars except 1) Cordoba continues the abominable practice of illogical model names and 2) they don't make any electric models in Oxnard (bring back the Starfires, X-500 and Artist Award!).

Not sure what their output is in Oxnard so I wish there'd be enough to put American Made Guilds out at GC and Sam Ash or other big chains so people could SEE what they have to offer. But it's almost like "we're so exclusive, even we don't know what we have" type of thinking. But maybe if they keep production up and get some guitars out there for people to play..... we can see what people think of these amazing guitars, right? Or are we still doing that "boutique"ish kinda thing?? C'mon, crank out some guitars and get 'em in the stores!!

Well, I'm totally wowed by my Oxnard F512. Greatest tone out of 12-string I've ever played. Ever. And superbly pretty as well....

I get my guitars serviced at Keith Holland's Guitar Hospital, and the last time I was there in December to get my Guilds treated, I was shown a Oxnard D40. I almost flinched at how light it was, especially since I'm used to the weight of my DV52 and JV52, each with two pickups installed (K&K and Baggs M1). Light, resonant, not quite the punch that I've become accustomed to, but still quite nice. So I totally understand why so many have commented that the Oxnard guitars are made real light. I was almost afraid of hurting it.
