Just had to pull up that old James Brown tune and play it. Why do I feel good???? Well, here's why.

I am today, for the 1st time in about 8 years gear debt free. Now, not to be too hard on myself, I only went into gear debt when I could buy interest free over 12 months or longer, sometimes as much as 36 months. I much prefer to use other peoples money rather than mine.

It kind of got to the point where it was just a bit overwhelming so I decided to cut a few pieces loose. And that felt so good I did a few more and now here I am with that debt anchor off my neck and it feels good, it really does.

Now, I didn't sell just to get out of debt, there were other reasons as well but in the end I feel happier and like a weight came off my back. Now the trick is to try and stay this way but knowing me that will be a tough thing to do.

I will be letting a few more pretty rare, or at least highly sought after, pieces go over the next few months. I'm turning my walk out basement into another music room. I'm about 60% there and the remainder will be done this coming winter.

Congrats! There's no better feeling than paying off a last debt payment!

Great feeling. Always thought that was one advantage less money rich folks had. The wealthy have no idea what a great feeling it is to make the last payment on a house, vehicle, or musical instrument!
Many will be watching for your listings.

... I'm turning my walk out basement into another music room.

This is what I want to see!!! Coming from someone who had to fight to get one corner of the bedroom as my music room.

My plan was to build up guitar equity before retirement & then work a trade/sell scenario if some shiney object came along that was deemed a must-have. No debt of any kind was the overriding goal (house, cars, cards, etc).

Four years into retirement, it’s worked to perfection!

I can handle the "debt" as the main big bills like college, house and cars are gone but I really dread the effort to sell all the stuff I acquired! Especially amps! And what am I going to do with that 10.5" Reel-to Reel, V of the T loudspeakers, power amps... With luck I may just go out softly into the night and leave it to someone else to worry about! Yoy...my poor wife!
