John Prine, the raspy-voiced country-folk singer whose ingenious lyrics to songs by turns poignant, angry and comic made him a favorite of Bob Dylan, Kris Kristofferson and others, died on Tuesday in Nashville. He was 73.

The cause was complications of the coronavirus, his family said. May he rest in peace.............

I went to an "Outlaw" concert with Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings in 1980 in Portland OR. Special guest, was Kris Kristofferson. Opening up the show, was a young guy (as I was), who was just discovered. That was John Prine. Up to that point I never heard of him. After that day, I never forgot him.

I'm crying.Woke up to the news this morning. I feel like I've lost a close friend; John was my musical mentor. I even sing in the same keys as him.

In todays world there's not a lot that can make me smile, chuckle and just flat out laugh. But Mr. Prine was for sure, one of those things. This just is not a good thing at all. I grew up in Milwaukee, close to Chicago, and heard him often and eagerly waited for him to play at the various venues. His "Please Don't Bury Me" is going to be my swan song.

He was a class act to the very end. Play on, John.

Was lucky enough to sit on many sessions with the folk scene crowd including John and Steve...what talents...we all need to sing their songs...condolences to Fiona who was with him for many years and the rest of his family...

They were a huge part of the Chicago folk scene in the 70's. It's hard to believe they are both gone now. But as stated already, they will live on forever in their music. We are blessed by that.

WXPN linked to Prine's '86 Strawberry Music Festival set on YouTube. And there's a Guild wielded by his guitar player.

That made me smile. John Prine's mischievous sense of humor and joyful word-play really shine thru in that clip. Thanks for posting. It's nice to remember the good times in this moment of sorrow and loss.
