Shootout of the Vintage Budget Guitars

John Abercrombie used Melody Makers for a bit in the 1970s. I saw him in 1976 and he was using a Les-Paul-shaped one routed out for humbuckers. This looks like one of the SG-shaped ones here: https://oannes.gr/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/merlin-to-scoop-126300380-38499-superJumbo.jpg

There is also the much rarer, I think, and probably much more expensive, I also think, 3/4 scale Gibson ES-140T, an other "student" guitar. https://www.frettedamericana.com/product/1958-gibson-es-140-34t https://www.frettedamericana.com/sites/default/files/01733_front.jpg With floating bridge...

Shootout of the Vintage Budget Guitars

Melody Maker D vs Fender Mustang Apologies if this has been around before. It is new to me. I don't know/remember if the Mustang is actually vintage, though.

My understanding is that the M-65 was a budget, student guitar, something aimed at Melody Makers and Mustangs. But being made by Guild, it is also a fine guitar that can be made very playable if it isn't so immediately.

Almost NGD! BT-258e 8 string Baritone on the way!

Very cool looking and hopefully sounding guitar. I have gone shopping for baritones but have always shied away from purchasing. I tried a six string Taylor prototype of their baritone in a shop. I tried a number Alvarez's reasonably decent baritones that were up on CL. As a kid, I could...

    M-65 short scale

I have read elsewhere that some people with smaller hands like the 3/4 scale M-65s for Jazz. Maybe at Jazzguitar.be. I have also read that some luthier attention to the bridges is often needed to get them to intone well enough for complex chord forms beyond fifth position to sound good. But...

Peter Gabriel's Biko from around the world

I saw him on the tour to promote the US album. It remains the best concert I have ever seen on all levels of measurement. Best stage craft and theatre integrated with song themes. Best backing band, Paula Cole, Tony Levin, L. Shankar, Manu Katché and more. Best sound. Most enthusiastic...

Anyone Recognise this Khaler Trem Model?

It looks most like a flat mount 2300/2320 for a Strat. https://reverb.com/uk/item/14194375-vintage-1980s-kahler-2300-2320-tremolo-bridge-for-fender-strat-stratocaster
