This is a really easy one for me. Tough because the writing and music is INSANE!! But he's an.... individual. And then it was interpreted by one of the best vocalists that we ever had and lost.... you tell me.

And then the one who makes me weep....

Or Joan Baez.... whom I love.

For me I have to go with Shawn Colvin. I really like the Raising Sand album and Plant and Krauss are wonderful together, but comparing these two versions T-Bone Burnett’s production comes across as muddy to me.

I have to agree with you. Allison and Robert are great together but it somehow gets, yes muddied is a good word for it. It's just bland and lacks something. I say Shawn all the way!! (y)

Usually I love T-Bone's work, but Raising Sand just sounds unfinished to me.

Plant and Kraus for me! (runs for cover...)

walrus
My complaint isn't with the performances. Anything Allison does is fine by me. It's just the production that's missing something.

At least Jeff Lynne didn't produce it. :sneaky: [hides behind couch]

Yeah, Shawn just has an "edgier" sound that really fits that song.

He talks too much, but the current Jackson version really gets it for me.

These Days...I listened to this over and over (also Drivin' Wheel) by Tom Rush in 1970...or at least it was the early '70's...
I never knew it was a Jackson Browne tune; to me this is the standard to play against:

But that said, I think maybe I like Browne's version off For Everyman a little better.
