I don't know of any place that offers a matched set.Anybody know the best place to get dual pick guards that match for my D40? Thanks.
What period is your D-40 from? I can help you with the material that Guild used towards the end of Westerly production. These are square sheets that are cut from a bigger sheet. They are big enough to make a pickguard from and I can make sure you get two from the same sheet.Anybody know the best place to get dual pick guards that match for my D40?
Thanks Hans. Unfortunately it’s a later one 2005 Richie Havens model. At this point i don’t care as long as they match. If you are interested, just get back with me.

Thank you truly. Guild doesn’t seem to offer lefty ones. I do have another tortoiseshell one, but it doesn’t exactly match nor did the one that was on the guitar and when it was taken off, created a rough surface so I may just put the unmatching one on there just have that area covered up. I figured I’d check here. Best forum ever. DaveI don't know of any place that offers a matched set.
Even the extra one Fender supplied with my D40 is obviously from a different batch of "tortoise shell", and I suspect that it's because all they really did was order enough "left-hand" 'guards (which really only had the adhesive on the opposite side from a "righty") to provide the Havens D40's with 'em. And so they came from an entirely different batch of tortoise.
If it was me I'd check Guild's site for one each of a left and right-hand 'guard, keeping my fingers crossed they offer a "lefty" as a part.
Failing that, or if perfect matching is a requirement I'd check the luthier supply sites for 'guard material and simply cut and glue my own.
Best bet for perfect match and at least "Guild, if not exactly period, correct" is Hans' offer. I'm sure his price would be fair but don't know what the international parcel post cost might be. Plus then ya gotta cut it and glue it, unless you have a guy you trust.Thank you truly. Guild doesn’t seem to offer lefty ones. I truly appreciate it. Thank you ! I’ll be in touch. I haven’t gotten luck yetHello again Dave,
The reason I asked what period your guitar was from is because I wanted to know if you needed the material with the adhesive backing; earlier Guild pickguards were attached straight to the bare wood and finished over.
So the late-Westerly material was the stuff that was used 'under Fender' and it's the same stuff that was used in Corona and Tacoma.
However the sheets from which the pickguards were cut could slightly vary in color and pattern and consequently we come across double-pickguard guitars with different pattern tortoise-style guards.
Here's a Tacoma D-40 RH with two slightly different guards; I must say that I've seen much worse!
I looked in my stash and found these two sheets that are a pretty good match:
The sheets still have the protective cover in place so the color looks a bit dull, but I've rolled back part of the plastic on the one of the left, so you can see what the actual color is. The black one on the right is just to show you the size of a dreadnought size guard.
The tortoise style sheets are 5 x 9,5 ".
Just let me know if you can't find anything on your side of the 'big pond'.
Sincerely,
Hans Moust

That mismatched Tacoma he showed is about exactly the same level and type of difference, as mine.I truly appreciate it. Thank you ! I’ll be in touch. I haven’t gotten luck yet
Actual picture. One is brown. The one on there is reddish. I think it’s too differentHmm... I wouldn't be thrilled with that, dpc. Are you doing that with photoshop or is that actually the color difference from a real cutout? It's the darkness of the bass side that doesn't match well. The shape is terrific.
Yes, I think that would be too mismatched. Could you remove the original and do a replace-and-add using the two sheets Hans has? This would be mine. Too mismatched? Opinions?
I’m checking with my luthier to see if he can cut for meYes, I think that would be too mismatched. Could you remove the original and do a replace-and-add using the two sheets Hans has?
Just about exactly the same as mine. The "lefty" 'guard has a denser coarser pattern with less "yellow" chips, I think. This would be mine. Too mismatched? Opinions?
