I have not found pickup swaps to make huge differences. And really t hink going fro SF to Tele sound is a big leap. But If you want brighter there are things to do with the controls that can help. A few come to mind:
-There are HB pickups that are brighter.... not sure compared to the Guild pickups though. Seymour Duncan has ratings for lows, mids highs for their pickups. You could browse those looking for really bright HB's.
-Install treble bleed on the volume pots. This will help the guitar to maintain the brighter sound turned down, like when the volume is wide open.
- Go for a high value volume pot, like 1K pot in lieu of the normal 250k-500k
Are you mainly a bridge or neck pickup player?
I don't think that guy is here anymore, so your advice probably has fallen to absent ears.

Unless he's still here and lurking.:cautious:

To get it sounding more like a tele, I’d try single coil pickups, stainless steel roundwounds and use pots/cap values of a tele.
For a no mod trial, flip the bridge humbucker around to get the poles closer to the bridge, and try stainless rounds.

Probably not, but it's not necessary if one is just answering the Original Post or putting a solution just for posterity. I saw the guy unsubscribed. But others may have the same question in the future. Google searches for guitar and Bass issues come up with links to LTG. So, anyone has a suggestion, let's hear it!:)

I know from time to time when I have had searches, posterity posts abounded on certain forums and it was nice to have updated info on the subject or constructive suggestions that did not appear earlier in a given thread.

It is a matter of convention. In several other places online where questions are asked and answered it is considered bad form to post after the OP says they have received a satisfactory answer even if there is a better or different answer.

If I am already having a bad day, someone whose post makes it clear that they did not read the thread and/or adds absolutely nothing to the discussion except to increment post counts will make my day worse. It then becomes a judgement call whether I just suck it up, let the poster know they annoyed me because they clearly weren't reading, joke about it, capriciously report or delete the post or what? I have learned to relax because as long as someone else tells the poster they were seriously redundant I can calm down.

The first portion was directed at @lungimsam but the rest is more of a Public Service Announcement since no one wants an angry Moderator going rogue and I have found explaining myself often encourages posters to self-moderate.

Sorry . I didn’t know what I did was wrong. Just trying to add a possible solution for anyone who would happen to see this thread in the future.

I’m kind of surprised anyone would even be bothered by such a thing.

If something was clearly wrong it would have been Moderated :)

Who is being bothered by what is ambiguous enough that I will not interpret and respond :)

But we are definitely still in "No harm, no foul" territory.

Posts 8, ,9 and 10 would’ve required a shut down if I was a mod
But some supportive, constructive posts get called out just for being posted after the OP left. Go figure. 😂🤣
Folks, sometimes people just like to discuss interesting subjects. Gotta keep this forum alive somehow!😂🤣😂

But what about the Veers?

:)
that would at least slightly contradict your "bad form" post, no?

which, btw i disagree with. If someone posts a public question on the internet, even if they have gotten a satisfactory answer...this is the internet... everybody gets to play...it's like an Allman Brothers song- it never ends...

if u dont want to get raked over the coals, or have the issue drag on and on like a bad marraige...be smart enough to find the answers to your questions "behind closed doors" and dont make a post like "how can a starfire sound like a telecaster" -which is ridiculous- *on a guitar forum, that literally every human on planet earth has the ability read. I would have gone a different route with that research

Depends what examples you generalize from. Stackoverflow is a site designed for software developers to ask questions and get answers. It is aggressively focused on the Q&A so moderation does things like; delete veers; detect, crossreference and lock duplicates; and lock when an answer is found. The whole point of the site is informed, fact-based discussion so people are expected to vote for the best answer and down vote bad or incorrect ones. The OP is expected to hang around long enough to acknowledge that the community answered the question or clarify the question if not. Portions of redit discourage veers and encourage new threads and if a question is answered the discussion is often closed.

LTG is neither and not expected to be. But every so often someone sees LTG as an archive of good, factual, information that is not available elsewhere and wishes the wheat could be separated from the chaff and vetted and made easily findable. So if that unachievable vision is nevertheless a goal, than more chaff doesn't get us any closer :)

bottom line if u post a question like "what kind of tuners did Guild use on a F-50 in 1975?" than what you are saying applies.

if u post a trick question that has no correct answer like "how can i get my SF to sound like a tele" it is open season on something like that

If I could figure out a way to separate the wheat from the chaff on LTG I’d be good enough to write the next Bitcoin. :)

I think leaving in a huff is childish but given the number of responses that were clearly not useful (probably because the responders didn't really read the OP) and the subsequent rudeness I don't think this thread is going to be one of LTGs finest moments.
Agreed. The slams aren't the responses LTG is known for. Reading the OP's post I don't see anything but a straightforward question looking for a good answer.

He got good answers. He was looking for something warm & fuzzy and felt he didn't get that.

And that justifies insults and name calling?

I sure hope this thread remains an exception to the culture around here, as the seeming insistance that only facts and hard answers are to be expected around here sounds really undesirable. I come here for warmth, encouragement, or understanding with my questions, but these are the types of threads that make me a lurker and not a regular poster.

I think a good answer would be if anyone knew of a humbucker that sounds good enough split to approximate a tele sound. I know of none. But maybe there's something out there. I never use my humbuckers split. But since it already has a push pull knob perhaps there's a wiring scheme that would get more out of a humbucker split. But trying to use a SC-1 to get a tele sound is probably a losing proposition.

Oh wow, I missed this somehow. I don't think the question was all that crazy. TVJones T-Armonds in a humbucker ring would have worked. Or Lollar's tele pickup in a humbucker mount.

A pickup with alnico poles (instead of steel poles and a bar magnet under the coil like a p90 or humbucker) gets a lot more of that immediate percussive "Fender" snap and twang. An old Starfire III with DeArmonds does sound kind of like a fat tele with less sustain on the bridge pickup.
